Re: Chip off the old block
So I opted to try and make a hardened spool valve. My hillbilly hardness tester indicates that a "factory" spool is between 60-65 Rockwell "C" (about the hardness of a dowel pin - aka HARD). While I doubt that I really need to do this - I thought it would be a good challenge so O...

Re: Chip off the old block
Been playing around making a couple of these. More to them than it looks. Super tight tolerances. Multiple "ramps", lots of fun.
Haven't tried to heat treat one....yet, but I will. Fingers crossed!!!!

Slightly "trick" barrel valve. I can't divulge the trick feature just yet, but here's a sneak peek. To be continued.

Re: Chip off the old block
You mean to tell me you didn't polish the inside?? That would help the air pass over the surface faster... Just kidding. <snip> -BP Dammit Paul! I was thinking the same thing, but it's SUPER hard to polish the inside once it's together! So NOW because of YOU - I had to make ANOTHER whole unit!!! It...

Project "Jay Scott" AMF Fuel Injector is nearly done. I can't wait to test it. In the meantime I made a video of the process. I'm not much of a photo editor!!! So please be gentle! https://youtu.be/tO5n-sCNIsA

Re: Chip off the old block
I would definitely make the hoses up if someone needed them, but I need to find a supplier for the fittings. Which I once did, but lost the bookmark. In the meantime I just recycle the ends. Thank you for the kind words. I am really happy how this is coming out!!!!!

Re: Chip off the old block
2 or 3 people manufacture the high pressure hose. After some searchin' I finally found out who sells the ferrules cheap. From there it's just re-cycling and cleaning the ends and roll crimpimg the ferrules. Easy PeezyMostMint wrote:I want to know what you are going to make the hoses from?

Re: Chip off the old block
BP, I thought of that TOO LATE!!!! Next one I might have to polish the inside before I weld it!!!!! We'll call this one - "engineered turbulence" used to enhance atomization!!!! :-) Almost ready still need to come up with some throttle/idle stops/adjustments. That and find the optimal nozz...

Re: 1966 OLDS 442
My old convertible is notoriusly hard starting when it has sat for more than an hour or so. And I finally figured out why. Todays shit gas boils at a much lower temperature than what was sold in the 60's. The result is the heat soak that happens when you shut off the car boils out the fuel from the ...

Re: Chip off the old block
So I got to sneak out for a few minutes, didn't get a lot done, but did get to fire up the welder. Tacked it from the top, fully welded on the bottom, then V'd out the top because I would grind it flush later. Still needs some smoothing, but it's on it's way!
