Chevelle makes first run!

It was a great day today. The sun was shining, the temperature was warm, and Thompson was open for their first time this year. They opened at 10am, but I didn't get out there till somewhere around 1-2pm.

I've given up on the computer controlled timing for now and put the distributor back to a mechanical advance setup last night.

I topped off all the fluids, set the street tires to 35 psi, set the slicks to 20 psi, and headed out. I made the first two runs with the exhaust closed. I could hear some detonation and also had a terrible bog off the starting line. The first run was a disappointing 13.30 @ 104, but that was with a 2.3 60-ft time. The next pass, I rolled slower into the throttle, got the 60-ft down to 2.0, but it was only a 13.21 @ 103. I was getting worried.

For the third pass, I backed the timing down two degrees (30 total) and opened up the headers. I also rolled into the throttle slower, almost eliminating the bog. Together, this made a huge difference, 12.44 @ 109, with a 1.85 60-ft. I knew it was a good run, as I could tell by my trap RPM. I was pumped when I saw the slip!

I wanted to back that pass up, so I made another one (no changes) and launched a 1.84 60-ft, and ran 12.34 @ 110! That ended up being my final pass. Water was seeping out of the ground onto the track, so they cut it down to 1/8 mile. I had already had a good day, so that's when I packed up.

There's definitely more in it, too. When you see the videos, it's a pretty lazy 1.8x 60-foot, in my opinion,

More pictures and video to come...

Dave, I am SO SO happy for you. I know it's been a long time coming.

11.99 this summer? That would be SWEET !

Get the computer working, drop a little weight out of the car. BAM, 11.99.........

Now that's why we do what we do.
Way to go Tiresmoke,
1.8 60's is leavin' and low 12's over 110 is cause for serious satisfaction. :)

Congratulations 8) Its good to get some payoff for all that work. Should be plenty of motivation now to get that ignition right.

Sounds like you might also need some more tread so you can really stand on it off the line.

On 11/14/04 the T/A ran 12.630 at 106.56, so I have been sitting on that for over 3 years! I'm pretty sure it'll still go that fast, but clearly thats not fast enough anymore. IIRC you were faster until I laid that one down on a cold November day.

So will anyone else be joining us - besides CHUPPA that is?

The problem off the line is the Acceleration Enrichment in the computer, something I haven't touched yet. Rolling into the throttle slower is the band-aid that I used. That's why I say it's a lazy leave.

I've had trouble getting it to idle right since purchasing the new throttle body. I have the screw for the throttle blades set to as far open as I can get it and it still has troubles sometime. You can sorta see what I mean after the burnout on the last pass in my youtube video.

It was a great first outing, though.

It is by far my best ET ever. However, years ago when I was running 13.70s @ 102-103, I made a pass on nitrous and went 12.67 @ 111.94, which is still my fastest MPH ever.

It's amazing what improved induction can make - throttle body, and heads. I'm impressed.

Again, nice job there, Mr. Tiresmoker.

Not to mention 2* of timing and opening the headers. :D
