Well, I went to a gun show Saturday with my neighbor and 2 other people we know. As it turns out everyone bought something.
Here is what I bought.
A Smith and Wesson semi-automatic pistol, 2 hi-capacity (14 round) magazines and a carrying case for $309.00 plus tax. SW40VE. I can't wait to go to the range next weekend. People were lined up around the table for this deal (in .40 or 9mm). The actual price is $259, there is a mail-in rebate for $50 from S&W and a mail in rebate for 2 xtra magazines (4 total).

No license to carry out in the open, only concealed you need a license. I applied for my conceal & carry license and should have it in 4 to 6 weeks. FBI background check, 10 finger finger print and like $40 for the application is all you need for your CCW permit.
It's funny but you never who's packing heat. When I was applying I asked the lady finger printing me how many people they do. She said the most was 50 in 1 day. The average is 20 to 25 a day. And that's ONE county! The people applying while I was applying were white guys, I was probably the youngest and black women.
Almost all my salesmen in Alabama carry and most of them in GA and TN do too. A bunch of my customers also carry.
It's a real nice weapon, fits my hand well. I'll let you know how it shoots. I probably wouldn't have bought one had it not been so cheap. I plan to keep it my car most of the time for when I travel and then at night at my home. I'll look for a trigger lock and will keep the magazines separate but close.
I've got a concealed carry license for North Carolina. Here they require all the background checks plus a comprehensive class in NC law regarding hand gun use. I learned that you have to be very careful under which conditions you use the weapon lest you get charged for a serious crime for shooting someone. Also, there are so many places that restrict the carrying of handguns that it is, in practice, very inconvenient to do here in the Raleigh area.
Well, we went to the shooting range today. There 6 of us, my neighbor, his friend, his friend's brother, my neighbor's 16 year old daughter, a friend of mine and myself. What fun. I put about 125 rounds through my gun and several rounds through a bunch of other guns. A side by side 12 gauge, a Glock 9mm, a S&W MP series .40, and a Beretta 9mm. We were there about 2 hours.
Gun guys are like car guys, they like to talk about their guns and have no problem sharing. Some guy offered to let me shoot his M4 assault rifle but I was already packed up and just waiting for a friend to pay.
MAN DOES MY THUMB HURT FROM LOADING CLIPS. I can't wait to go again.
My first hand gun was a Colt 45 ACP. I really liked it. Not very accurate, but the kick was cool. It just got too expensive. I quit going to the range, and eventually sold it. Currently have a Smith .357. I shoot the .38 special, semi wad, re-loads - their cheap. Dan has asked me about it, and I'm holding off until he's 12, three more years.
I need to stop hanging out with my neighbor. We went to another gun show today. He bought a .22magnum bolt action rifle, so of course I had to buy something. AGAIN, there was a screaming deal I couldn't pass up. I bought a Russian M44. It was manufactured in 1944 and is in really good condition, ALL NUMBERS MATCHING, which is as important in guns as it is in cars, lol.
Check out this YOUTUBE video also. Pretty cool. Now I just need to practice and I'm ready to go hog hunting.
Wel. I went to another gunshow and purchased another rifle. This one was built in 1942. It's a German Mauser 98K. It has all the Nazi markings and is numbers matching. This is not a picture of the actual one I got though.
