FYI.

As you all know I towed the Chevelle and 455 up to Camaro Bob and Paul.

On the trip up the Avalanche got between 10mpg and 14 mpg. (I used the Driver Information Center for each tank). It was in tow/haul and in 3rd the whole time.

On the return trip, no Chevelle and no U-Haul trailer, it got an average 18.6mpg (almost 50% better just as BP predicted). This was in O/D and the AVY using V8/V4 cylinder de-activation. This time I let the DIC calculate the whole trip not just the tanks. It was roughly 775 mile one way.

Man, this truck is a joy to drive.

It will only get better.
I got 21 and change on a short business trip, Eastlake, to Merniva Ohio. Interstate (271, and 480) and divided highway (Rt 183). Needless to say, for a 5000+lb truck, I'm impressed. Your Z71 may be a few pounds heaver than my Z66.

What's your gear?
Mines 3.73.

My gear is 3.73

It only has like 3500 miles on it.
Once I get a CAI, maybe cat back and drop the spare tire and jack it'll hit 20mpg.
I'd be happy with that.

I have roadside assistance and AAA with 100 miles free towing (4 hook ups per year), so no need for a spare tire. A can of fix a flat or a flat bed trip to the nearest tire store (within 100 miles) and I'll be good to go.

Did I mention how much I love it? It is a LUXURY ride. And you're right it weighs A LOT.

My towing mileage is 10-12. That's Mentor, to Dragway 42.
I've played with the Tow/Haul, and finally left it off. I don't get any engine braking at all, in T/H. Interesting. At 60mph, (in drive), I lift my foot, and the RPMs drop to less than 1k. Just doesn't seem right. Especially when descending a grade. I haven't pursued it, maybe it's a re-flash thing.

This is by far, the nicest vehicle I've EVER owned, let alone, it's a truck. I've never had so many whistles and bells. My favorite feature is the sunroof. (Sun and Sound package - sunroof and Bose 6 disc).

The adjustable pedals and rear audio controls, I feel, are a waste. I'm sure to some, the pedals are a value.... I've never used either.

A power back window would be cool.

You know, I thought a power back window would be cool too. Or a split mid gate for hauling long lumber (2x4x10's or something) where you don't need the whole thing down. I would also like to see rear fan controls for the heat & A/C, no necessarily temp control but additional fans for circulation would be nice.

I use the heated seats for my back on trips, NICE.

Actually, my wife uses the power adjustable pedals when she drives it and my daughter uses the heck out of the rear audio controls, so she doesn't have to listen to what we listen to.
