Re: iRacing broadcasts
Sebring was a decent race - qualified P15, pitted early when I came up on a pack of 7 cars racing, finished it out clean with a P10. After the pit cycle was over I was P8 as a couple guys who were faster came out 5 seconds behind. I just didn't have the pace to hold them off for 12 laps. Still a good result - third in a row in top 60% of the field in that series.
Up next is the first race of season 8 in XSLR. Not exactly clear when it starts (8 maybe?) but it should be going by 8:15 PM on 6/23. We'll be running the street stocks at Daytona oval. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BdzXiA5OJBo

Re: iRacing broadcasts
That was a fun race. A little harrowing as I had to dodge several wrecks.
I didn't get in both qualifying laps as I took a bio break and came back well into the session. I think league admin advanced the session quicker than I was expecting. In the draft starting position should not matter much - however it did when the guy in front of me made contact with the car ahead and my check up cost me momentum but also I made some contact. From there I was not able to keep up with the draft, so when the first real caution came out I pitted and got the car fixed and full of fuel. It was only 12 seconds of repair but it was on the nose.
I was around multiple incidents and somehow got through many of them clean. I can't recall the exact order but the next caution had a bunch of people pitting and put me in front. I got several laps led there under yellow but no one wanted to work with me and I was well back after about a lap though still in draft.
Some time around lap 31 all the leaders peeled off for the pits which left me alone out front. Full tank = about 30 laps and there were some cautions so I was good til lap 42 or so. Well a couple guys around me made contact and brought out the caution on the back straight before I was about to head in. After the pit I came out in P6 which was not great but right with the lead pack. On lap 48 there was an incident coming to the start/finish line - again right ahead of me - and I checked up as two cars in front were grinding along the wall and at least one other went spinning. No caution though so I lost a bunch of momentum and any chance at hanging with the lead pack. Still ended up P5 which has to be above my skill level in this type of racing.
Watching back the replay I was a bit surprised how high up the track I was many times while on the outside. I have to get better orientation of where the lanes are on a big track like that. Also I think I need to adjust the steering wheel ratio as I have a road racing ratio which is way too fast for the precision I need in the corners and aligning behind a car to push.

Re: iRacing broadcasts
Did a little prep for Bristol. This track is a bit tricky as tire wear is an issue. I basically learned that a little part throttle on corner entry really helped increase tire life and did not affect lap times much. I learned in practice you can run it wide open around the track, and I put that to use in qualifying and managed a P4 out of 13.
I gave up some spots early but then was able to hold my own. There was a group that was a bit faster but then I was able to get away from the rest. There were people making mistakes so I was doing pretty well when the tank got low and I pitted. Sadly I was on pit road when the caution came out. Somehow it worked in my favor and I was P5 headed for the start. Then we had a problem with iRacing which was a first for me. The pace car stayed out and we got the green. League owner was not sure what to do and ended up getting everyone on the lead lap again by waving them around. Well guys that were multiple laps down due to their mistakes were now back on the lead lap. League owner said there were problems with this track/car combo - we should not have run it knowing this.
So I was quite irritated with 4 to go as I was like 9th, but then a late caution and subsequent green white checker had an incident in front of me after the white flag and it didn't throw the caution and I moved up to 5th. Two weeks two P5 finishes and I'm 4th in points.
The car track combo was fun there was a lot of good side by side racing going on.

Re: iRacing broadcasts
The combo of Indy oval with the street stock was a lot of fun. I got in some practice and parlayed that into P3 qualifying.
There were some incidents during the race that cost me a bunch of spots and ended up in back at one point. Still managed a P4 and fastest lap of the race.
Up next on Sunday 7/14 is the last paved oval - Charlotte - with the street stocks. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XlruAvh8-qU

Re: iRacing broadcasts
Charlotte was a fair result ending up P6 after a P3 qualifying effort.
What I learned in the race is I was not able to stay close enough in T2 to provide a bump draft on the back straight.
I saw so many sketchy close incidents I decided to drop back. From the back I could see there were about 3 cars doing a really poor job maintaining a line - lots of swaying and making it difficult to get by. There were several instances where I had to back out to avoid a crash and all cost me time. Lost the draft a a couple times.
Luckily there were a few incidents that allowed me to catch back up to the draft, and start in a decent position for the green white checker.
I missed P5 by .04 and missed the fast lap of the race by .04.

Re: iRacing broadcasts
Well this one was an adventure. Practiced with a drying track, qualified in the dry, but right before the race it started pouring. Before I gridded I changed the setup to rain tires, as did all but three on the grid.
I was able to qualify P12 of 31 cars setting a new personal best on the track. Unfortunately someone in front of me spun lap 1 T2 and I just got tagged and spun while trying to drive around the outside. So before T3 I was dead last but at least the car was in tact. From there I spent the rest of the race working my way through the field and ending up P14. Lots of cars that I passed were off course or off speed due to the wet racing conditions. The track had puddles in many places and there is definitely a wet line on this track. It would have been nice to practice in this super wet to learn the fast way around the track. The leader was insanely fast, and I almost got lapped twice. It's been a long time since I've been so far off the leader pace.

Re: iRacing broadcasts
XSLR Season 8 race 6 in the books
Street Stocks at Spa for 18 laps
Qualified P8 of 11 - Messed up qualifying with minor off tracks. I did not get a valid qualifying time so I started toward the back.
Early race was marred with a lot of contact. Lap 1 T3 exit there was a big accident I almost missed but tagged in the LR quarter with one of the spinning cars. I also lost a lot of speed slowing to avoid. About halfway through the lap a slower car in front lost it on corner exit - I was too close so I hit him while he was spinning. Then lap 2 T1 the guy in front of me misjudged the car ahead of him, swerved to miss but ended up hitting the guy and bouncing into my path. This crunched up the LF and left me basically pinched between that guy and the inside wall. The biggest problem here is my incident point count was up to 12 and 16 gets you a drive through penalty. The car was off by about a second a lap so I ran it til lap 5 when I came in for fuel and fast repair.
This car/track combo is a bit tricky and there were several guys who were not too good on road courses, so I was still able to manage a P5 finish.
Up next is XSLR league race with street stocks at Laguna Seca on Sunday 7/28 8:10 PM. I'll post up a link once its available.

Re: iRacing broadcasts
Well they finally did the broadcast yesterday evening. Shoestring operation and no formal protocol for outages led to a lot of shuffling around on start time.
In the end though the result was the same. After practicing I realized I only needed to save about 1.5 gallons over 30 laps at Laguna Seca. Fueling and traversing pit lane was like 30 seconds so anything less than 1 second per lap slower would help my cause. I qualified like I was going to race to avoid getting run over on lap 1. This netted P5 start out of 9 cars.
The short story is my strategy worked and I won the race with a margin of victory of over 5 seconds. It seems my fuel saving strategy was easy on tires and the speed differential decreased as the race went on.
Up next is VIR 6 hour this Saturday with coverage starting at 11:40 AM. My team is sLowered Expectations. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3HSFxA3fHhQ

Re: iRacing broadcasts
Updates:
1) ChampCar iRacing VIR 6 hr endurance race result:
Qualified P12, started in the dry, we struggled racing in the rain with wet tires - as did many teams, we gambled at the last FCY keeping our driver in on wet tires which didn't work, and ended up P8 just a few seconds from the lead lap. The gamble was the track was still damp and since everyone went to dry tires there would be some crashing, but none of that brought out any additional full course yellow flags. Aaron and I brought in Orlando as a replacement driver since Lee was not available that day. The wet tire model is poor at managing any kind of standing water on the track.
In the points championship its best 2 out of 3 (we have a P6 and P7, leader has P1 and P1) plus whatever we get in the finale coming up on October 13.
2) XSLR Nurburgring Combined:
While Tiresmoke was down I went racing with XSLR with street stocks at the Nurburgring Combined circuit. A lap takes 10 minutes!
https://www.youtube.com/live/wDOBmmZOFe ... xaX_xK-OJA
I have a fair amount of experience with the Nordschleife part of the track, and I took the time to learn the Grand Prix part of the track in preparation for this event. There are like 170 turns on this track and it takes a while to learn so I figured I would have a great shot at a podium finish. Qualified P3 behind Tyler who returned this season and Ismael who is brand new to the league. Only 8 drivers decided to take on this challenge. Lap 1 on the front straight the Adam who was next to me got a run on the car ahead, decided to move right and pitted me. I needed up hitting the fence and of course dead last. WTF we have 50 minutes! This guy runs the league and don't usually see this type of bad decisions from him. Anyway once I shook it off I got to work. Pitted the end of lap 1 as the damage to the LF was costing me a couple MPH on the straights. I took 19.7 seconds of service including fuel and fast repair. This was about 8 seconds shorter than anyone else. I even put in an extra 1/2 gallon for good measure. It was clear I was faster than at least 4 of the cars and throughout the rest of the race I caught and passed them - several while they were pitting. Adam was distraught from the incident and parked himself halfway through lap 2, leaving me with a P3 finish in the end. If Ismael does not appear out of left field I'm P2, but it is what it is. Those leaders were a solid 10 seconds per lap faster than me so I had nothing for them - meaning my lap 1 crash in the end did not really affect the outcome.
3) Tonight at 8:10 PM: XSLR at Watkins Glen with street stocks.
We're running the Cup circuit which is much shorter and faster. Last paved course race of the season. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HAuDdDztxE4

Re: iRacing broadcasts
At WGI I qualified 3rd and finished 4th. Two really quick guys had penalties to serve so they were starting from the back, and with 9 cars they were ahead of me in short order. P1 qualifier is new to the league and spent way too much time in the pits.
Still 2nd in points though I don't expect to hold that position for long. I need to stay ahead of Kevin and Bobby to hold top 3 in points.
Tonight at 8:10 PM is Rallycross at Daytona in the Beetle Lite https://www.youtube.com/live/GP33ocA7R3c
New car so no teal metallic - instead it'll be teal and black. Still car 50.
