2012 Jaguar XJ Supercharged

I’m baaaack. Picked one up with 83K miles and every bell and whistle. Stickered for about $95K. It’s already a blast with 470hp but a tune and pulley will get me another 100hp for about $1200.

Nothing major found by the dealer. Dropping it off with a euro mechanic next week to baseline it i.e. all fluids flushed, new tires and brakes. Has the common supercharger snout coupler rattle that is more annoying than a problem. This weekend I will be detailing it and posting some better pics.

I saw a white one driving the other day and thought of you. The black looks way better.

Nice ride!

Cleaned up nice. Interior is mint. Outside not bad but ultimately would need a paint correction to be super sweet.

Getting the car back on Monday. Went ahead and took car of the water pump and supercharger snout while I had it in for tires and fluids. Should be safe and sound now. Which means being more liberal with gas pedal.

Oh, and that rebuilt snout comes with the 7.5% reduction pulley for another 1.5lbs boost. Ended up ordering the tuner and tune today. Can’t wait! Likely see if I can get some dyno time with the shop that worked on my truck. Find out the real gains. Allegedly good for 580hp/532ftlb up from 470hp/424ftlb. There literally is no physical difference between my motor and the motors in the higher HP XF and XJ R models. Sad that it was such a conservative tune from factory but good to know I’m not putting crazy stress on it.

Also, got window regulator, alarm horn and door speaker parts so I can work on that soon.

They detuned it so they could charge $10k more for the better one, even though manufacturing costs were probably identical. You're getting a bargain!

I did a little research and the price difference between the XJ Supercharged and XJR575 is $30K MSRP, though closer to 25 if you consider the extras it includes. Regardless, a bargain to get that same power for $1000.

Fun fact: my buddy has a 2018 Mustang GT. Decided to check out the weight difference. His is 4400lbs and my yacht is only 4200 thanks to aluminum frame and body.

Thats a sleeper.. I'd never look at that thing thinking 500-600hp.

How is your buddy's car so heavy? Thats like 600+lbs heavy. Googling "2018 mustang gt weight" ~I get 3500-3800 lbs.

My bad, pulled it for a 2021 per Edmonds. Must be the batteries.

The XJ is back from the shop with all new shoes, fluids, water pump and coolant pipes. All good maintenance stuff and the brakes are fine for now.

I ended up having the supercharger shout replaced with a 7.5% reduction for another 1.5lbs boost and perhaps 20hp or so. Definitely much stronger In the mid-range and I’m more comfortable pushing it now. The tuner is arriving next week. It all goes well, I’ll be on the dyno for a before and after next Friday.

This weekend I should knock out a few replacement parts. I got a nice OBD2 Bluetooth unit that has a simulated 0-60 and 1/4 mile feature. Might try and find some open space :)

Did you ever find performance specs on a stock version of your car?

This is a good comparison between the SuperSport and the Supercharged. Which I’m kind like the SS at the moment. After tune it will basically be a XJR575. https://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/a1 ... xj-review/

It may be Paul’s bday, but I’m very happy and got a nice present today. Red lines are pulley only and blue lines are with tune. Assuming 20% loss for an automatic, that’s 600hp @ crank, almost 130hp gain for $1K. *does a happy dance*.

Not much more I can do performance wise other than some minor improvements for intake and exhaust.

For the past few weeks, I’ve been dealing with a slow leak on one wheel despite new tires. The shop couldn’t find a leak but we suspected the old weld repair might have a developed a crack. Anyway, that was enough to make me sand and polish that new set of rims I got on the cheap that had some curb rash. After a lot of elbow grease, I added some really nice clear coat and boom, looking much better and not leaking.
