Wednesday, Sep 13, 2006, I'm off to TDR, or is it TRP????
Mr. 72 Deuce ('72 Nova, 355/th350, good heads, big cam, tunnel ram...and 3.23 gears? ) will be in tow, behind my Avalanche. I belive mid 12s is the goal, as he's already run 12.7 something.....

So..... It looks like we may have a new leader in the quest for running better than 12.62!
I'll probably run my AV. Who knows, good air, may yield 16.5s

Anyone else?

I ordered the new fuel pump and canister style filter this morning from JEGS. I also ordered a harmonic balancer seal. Hopefully that will cure my high RPM oil leak.

As for your post, you were correct, 12.72 @ 107

I'm, gagging right at the moment! Someone just used the words Ford and fast in the same sentence.
Butt heads.

Later dudes.

If you folks go to THompson Raceway Park, aka TRP, make sure you post your results
and maybe a photo or two. Get those numbers and watch out for that red lite.
We were just there, see "TRP 9/6/06" in the Swap Meet & Car Show section. Grins!

We're on for this Wed 9-20-06, weather permitting.
I'll be trailering 72 Deuce, and probably? run the Avalanche.

MostMint- Nervous? 72 Deuce is knocking on your 12.62 door. 8)

72 Deuce and I went to the track. Along with some friends and family.
The AV made it to the semis (3rd round in truck class), then I fouled with a .485. The last run was a 17.05 on a 16.98 dial.
The rain held off 'till 9:30.

Yikes I just read this. If he drives it there and beats 12.62 then I'm nervous.

Of course it could just be the excuse I need to get my butt in gear and do something.

Current problems aside, 12 second cars do not need trailers do they tiresmoker?

72 Deuce was trailered to the track, and I'll let him fill ya in on all the details.
But I can tell ya this - ya best be a dustin' off the F'Bird, and givin' her a look-over..... 8)

Thanks to Dave, he has fixed the "add image post" I think

The TRP oputing was both good and bad. First the good, I made it to the final round and if it were not not for my mistake in the burnout box (not getting the tires hot enough due to not setting the line lock pressure high enough) I think I had a good shot of winning. At about the middle of second gear it REALLY broke the tires loose. My heart rate had to be 180 bpm+ at that point. The car made a hard move to the right and by the time a gathered it up my oponent had already gone around me. Traction was an issue all night as evidenced by my 60ft. times.

Now for the bad, I REALLY thought the car was going to go 12.60s or better. My best time was a 12.713 (on a 12.70 dial in). More bad news was that Mark said I was showing a rich smoke trail from my exhaust. We disconected the secondary linkage on the rear carb and it did help but this is not the cure. I guess the next step is to replace the secondary metering plates with the conversions that allow jet changes without going to a metering block.

The outing was a good time for all who went including some friends and family. I'd also like to thank Mark (MarksSS327) for all his help in providing his slicks, trailer, and pulling me out there. Were it not for him I couldn't have made it happen. So once again THANK YOU!!!

Just as a side note: the stucture in the last photo is the building were I work at. It is the Aero Accoustic Propulsion Lab. @ NASA Glen

I tired to post a picture and if it works there will be more to follow. Any and all comments are appreciated.Image

Oh, yea..... Your welcome !

OK! Really sweet ride. Great numbers too and it looks like there is alot more there with the right track
and weather conditions, not to mention more tuning. Maybe low 12's in the near future. It's a whole
lot prettier than Mostmint's rough TransAm, but he reminds us that he drives his to the track.
More pictures of the motor and interior.

Ok, the anger has subsided (but I cant deny being in a bad mood for most of Thursday) and I might even try working on it again on Sunday. I'm to the point where I can get the gas tank out in about 5-10 minutes once the gas is drained.
