Summit 4-in-1 Gauges

I'd like to have some gauges that aren't too far out of view and don't want to mount them on the dash. These look like they might be OK.

Where do you plan to mount it? It looks like it is set up for a steering column mount. Do you think the gauges will be easy to see? They look small to these old eyes.

Yes, on the steering column. It would replace the spastic tach currently mounted there.

Yes, they're small. Might have to have specs on to read them. But the price seems right and I wouldn't have to cobble up anything to get a basic set of gauges.

Another possibility would be to build a new gauge cluster the replace the speedo and idiot lights but that would be hard and more expensive.

Have also thought about building a console with gauges but they'd be low and not that easy to see either.

Could also put a triplet of gauges in the package shelf under the dash and replace my steering column tach. Again, hard to see the gauges and more expensive.

The Summit cluster looks like an OK solution. Just checking to see if anyone has any experience with them.

Makes sense what you are trying to do. Here is a pic of my 62 Chevy and what I did. The triple gauge is a 2.5 inch inch face and easy to see, the tach is column mounted like they did in the 60's.

My tach is a Sunpro. Cost around $60, new off Ebay.
Just another approach that might be cheaper. maybe you want the shift light :?: :oops:

That setup looks good. Was thinking the triplet of gauges would be too low but I'll have another look.

Yes, the shift light would be nice.

Yes, every car is different and it may not mount as prominently in the Maverick. The Sunpro tach is now around $40. They may have one with a shift light for a little more. Hopefully if this works it will still be cheaper than the 4 in 1.

Decided against the 4-in-1 and infavor of the steering column mounted tach (and memory module) and below-dash temp, volts, and oil pressure.

Summit had a deal with these (out of stock) gauges http://www.summitracing.com/parts/ATM-2366/ -- get $20 off on a selection of tachs. Ordered this one http://www.summitracing.com/parts/ATM-2303/, $31.95 with discount. Also ordered this tach memory module http://www.summitracing.com/parts/SUM-800100-1/

The only tachs I could find with built in memory were 5", way too big for the steering column position. With the discount on the tach, the memory module cost more than the tach. :roll:

Above three items are abou $47 less than the 4-in-one. No shift light but I'd rather have the tach memory. Can't really keep track of the tach at WOT shifts.

Looks like a good deal. post pictures of your installation. Oh, one last suggestion. If it is a mechanical oil pressure gauge, it probably comes with that plastic line. Spend the 10 bucks and buy a copper tubing kit. The plastic ones break easy, and they can't be near any heat. You can usualy pick up the kit at an Advance Auto, Auto Zone or Carquest. Probably NAPA too.
Do you think you will need an 8000 RPM tach :mrgreen:

All electrical!! I've heard three guys talk about the mechanical tubes breaking and making a mess in the car. One was copper -- I assume he abused it. Not sure why anyone wants mechanical but some prefer them???

I'd really like to have vacuum and air/fuel mix gauges too. Maybe someday. Doesn't look like I'll very run out of improvements to make. :mrgreen:
