We'll probably go to Benson/Dunn, 1/8th mile. Care to translate? MPH?

14.70 would translate to about 9.40. That would be good.
I found this link on the internet, are any of these tracks near you?

I'm going with a 14.95 @ 91mph.

Roxboro is 30-45 minutes from my house, Julian about an hour, Fayetteville about 90 minutes, and Jacksonville about 2.5 hours. All are possible.

OK, here is my guess, 1/8 mile 9.95 sec @ 72.5 MPH,
60 foot 2.30 sec and 1/4 mile 15.25 sec @ 91.5 MPH

Best reaction time, Holeshot should put up a 0.050 sec, maybe better.

Fred, you're putting a lot of pressure on a first timer.

Notice I didn't mention reaction time.

Hope you're right about the ET.

Wow! now i'm feeling the pressure. I have the most faith in your car and your ability

I picked the fastest time (9.25 in the eigth) So, you have to RISE to the challenge
Here are some tips
1. Forget about reaction time, just be happy that you HAVE A REACTION TIME
2. I suggest NO burnout, just drive around the water. With street tires a burnout just wears out your tires. Also you have no line lock, so don't abuse the car.
3. After driving around the water, you could try a "dry hop" equivalent. Power brake it, bring it to around 2000RPM (2500 if the brakes will hold) then nail it to get to the staging beams. This is optional, but it would put some heat in the tires.
4.I assume you will power brake off the line. Try 2000 to 2500, or as high an RPM as your brakes will hold. Push it through the gears, don't short shift.
5. I would suggest your first run be with the air cleaner on, rear tires at nornal PSI to get a baseline
6. Depending on traction you can then start to let some pressure out of the rear tires to get a better bite. Take the air cleaner off after you feel you have a baseline. You probably won't have the ability to re jet the carb, but if you do you might try richen up a little. Finally, you can try advancing the timing a little too.
So now, lets go fast!
But have fun

Thanks for tips. Hadn't thought about the air cleaner.
Fred's "Hole Shot" and "reaction time" comments refer to an ambush in Carlisle.

I've been thinking about your test on June 30. We don't have a lot of time, but if we work hard we probably can set it up like this.
What do you think
Oh, wait. Forget it. Yours is a 2 door not a 4 door

New Tach and Tach Memory Device
Posted: Fri Jun 17, 2011 9:13 pm
by Maverick
The tach I picked up at Carlisle for a few bucks worked but jumped around like crazy and had to be replaced.
When I tried to install the new AutoGage tach (Father's Day gift from wifey) from Summit it wouldn't mount to the steering column like the spastic one did. There's only one place I can put a hose clamp around the steering column and that positioned the new tach so high on the column the steeering wheel hit it.
My junk drawer yielded a 1/2"X1/8" bar and 3/8" washer. Washer was welded to the bar and fits over one of the bolts that mounts the steering column. The other end of the bar is secured by the hose clamp in its one acceptable location on the column.
The tach mount is bolted to the bar to put the tach in a good location.
And, here it is.
I also got a tach memory device from Summit that remembers the highest RPM reading since the last reset. Stuffed it in beside the left AC outlet. Didn't have to mount it -- just put it in there with a (little) force fit. Just one button. PUsh the button and the device sends a signal to the tach representing the hights RPM since last reset. Just hold the button down for a while to reset memory.
UNFORTUNATELY, with the memory device wired in the tach doesn't register any RPMs.

But, the tach works fine without the device.
I'll check all the connections tomorrow and try to determine if the memory device is working. Its wired in series between the distributor and tach. I think it should be passing an AC signal thru to the tach if its working. We'll see tomorrow.

Rechecked all the connections to the recall unit and tach and all were good. Turns out I didn't need the meter to check AC from the distributor, I could feel it. Input to the recall unit but nothing coming out. Boxed it up and put it out for the mail man to return to Summit. Requested exchange. I'll hook the tach up till another unit arrives.
The unbroken string of redos goes on.

Focus on the good! That tach looks awesome mounted there

The face size is perfect too. Maybe the memory module is very old. I know my "personal" memory module stopped working after about 50 years
