Well the Avalanche has 96k miles on it. I am considering trading it in on a newer, lower mileage, cheaper payment car for work. I am looking at a 2009 G8 GT and a 2007+ Infiniti G35/G37maybe a charger. My last option is to get the company car, a 2011 Impala base model.

2011 Mustang. 305hp, 13.9 1/4 mile, and 31mpg HWY. Base price $22999. Those come with factory limited slip and dual exhaust. How can you go wrong?

How is this?

I'll take it!!

The only drawback I see for you is coming up north when its crappy outside. You might need to find a good $3000 pickup after you buy your SRT-8!

A nice in between would be an AWD 300C with the Hemi. Another car that came to mind was the Grand Prix with the same 5.3 like in mostmint's SS.

I like your the direction you're headed though.

I am so wishy washy it makes my head spin. I drove the SRT8 and another TBSS. The SRT is SOOOOOO fast it's crazy.

So what started all this is the need for tires on the Avalanche, the next major service, the end of the 100k mile warranty and the fact that it died on me last week (the cold in the teens killed the battery). So I was thinking if I am gonna spend $1000+ on a car with 100k miles should I consider another car with less miles. The problem is that the SRT is out of warranty (3/36k). The TBSS will soon be out of warranty (5/100k). I really don't want to drive some plain jane car so I was kinda stuck. I think I am going to "risk" it and keep the Avalanche another year maybe 2. I really can't replace it with something equal without going into big debt again. I really don't want to do that either.

So the TOY will have to wait a little longer. Sorry to get everyone's hopes up.

Well at 182k miles the check engine light comes on and the truck starts running poorly. OBDII reader says misfire on 7. So I decided to start by changing the plugs. Well I had heard rumors GM had issues with the plugs on the engine with the V4 - V8. They say that when it runs in V4 mode the rings don't seal well and the engines use oil and do weird things to the cylinder/plugs. Look at the pictures and tell me which cylinders are the V4 ones and which ones are not. Can spot why it ran poorly.

These plugs have about 70k miles on them, they are the OE Delcos and rated for 100k.

It runs a LOT better with new plugs. Although while I had the passenger tire removed for easier access to the plugs I could hear the hub bearings making noise. Looks like Saturday I am doing the passenger side bearing hub.

A couple days ago the Avalanche developed a "popping" from under the driver side front end. It was intermittent. Well today I crawled under there and found a broken sway bar end link. The new one should be in on Tuesday.

I still have the power programmer from when I had my Avalanche. I think I paid $120. Yours for $60. Cheapest HP you can buy.

Well the Avalanche started missing at idle again. I kind of knew right away what it was. So after ONLY 12k miles here is what the number 7 plug looked like (driver rear).

Image

I am not sure what is happening inside this engine to cause the insulator to break off the plug but this is the 3rd time. At least I know what the fix is once it starts to miss. I replaced just that one and we'll see how long the next one lasts. My mileage is still around 17-18mpg on the highway.

Do you run crappy gas? I'm wondering if detonation is doing something there...

Do you ever run any injector cleaner through there? Are your valves carboned up on that cylinder?
