the stationary camera shots give a good idea how fast this guy is going. It sounds like he is at Indy:

Not recommended for the street... I was nervous just watching it. Whether it was really 219 or not, I'm thinking the speedo was off. Those cars aren't that fast stock (assuming it's stock). I think the last test I read was 202 or something close to that, with one person in the car, not two. Either way, that's crazy fast. I bet that stretch of road was almost 10 miles long.

The notes on the video, implies it was shot in the Phoenix area. 'Vally of the Sun'. Flat and straight. I too, got an eerie feeling watching the lane markers fly by. Had something bad happened, they'd just have to vacuum up the debris.

the quote above the video:

"The first rule of owning a classic car like this 1967 Shelby Cobra is women are only allowed to sit in the passenger seat. This guy ignored that rule and paid the price."

Not in English, and it's not really needed. 8)

Dragway 42 website has some interesting vintage videos, including Evel Knievel jumping 10 semis. The videos are old and grainy but you get the idea. There are some others from racing in the late 60's and early 70's. It is interesting to see what has changed, and what has not.

If you had one, you'll understand why this is funny:

I don't normally laugh out loud, but the slow motion replay was too much.

I thought the helmet coming off and the closeups were the best.

Here is an encore from the same people:

NICE. Poor guy, gets abused in this one. The life of a stuntman though, right?
