Matt, it's an all aluminum 5.7 LS1 out of a '97 Vette. Keep in mind, those numbers are a little skewed because the only thing turning is the water pump. There are no accessories at all. This motor had 77k miles on it, and was rated new at 345hp. Maybe an overachiever?

BP, did you have Hutters do any head work?

Not this go around. I wanted too, but it would have been another $1600 or so to do it, and I was pushing the budget already so I stopped. By not doing the head work, I won't feel bad about not doing exhaust work right away either, which I'm sure would have been another $500 or more.

I chuckle every time someone asks if a project is finished, or when it will be finished. Never happened yet.

Does it have limited slip rear?

Well, no matter how you cut it, measuring 500 HP on stock LS1 heads is impressive!

I'm definitely happy with the 500hp number! Like you said, especially with stock heads.

Maverick, it has a stock locking differential. It's an open diff unless it's under load, then it locks up. It works really well, but I don't think it will handle the monster load... eventually.

Picked the motor up yesterday. There's some reassembly on the motor itself, more parts to buy, and the actual putting it in the truck still to do. But seeing it sit there is motivating for sure.

Yeah, LS2 is better, in lots of ways. He's putting over 400hp to the wheels. I'm thinking I'll be down about 50hp to him. Weight and gearing are very similar though. It will give me something to shoot for with head and other upgrades in the future to make that a doable number.

So far I've sold about $640 worth of LS1 parts off this motor alone on eBay. Bringing the price of the motor down to about $1860. I have also sold the V6 headers, a 351 Cleveland intake manifold, and a bunch of Caddy parts out of my basement to help fund this project.

The Accountant approves of your funding methods!!

After determining that there was at least one bell housing bolt that was not accessible, 32V and I removed the all the hardware for the tranny crossmember and the engine mounts and the motor / trans assy is now ready to pull. We didn't pull it yesterday because I didn't have a good plug for the back of the tranny and I also had some business stuff to do that was better done early than later. Next weekend the motor will come out.

I have a couple spare yokes that will work fine as a tranny plug if you need one.
