Volunteers needed for 2011 Nelson Ledges Chump Car Race
Mostmint Racing is looking for some non-driving help for this race.
veedub has already offered (full time I think) and fred32v and wxo (part time). Any others?
There will be lots to do for the weekend. The obvious things are refueling (two people - one to refuel and one to man the fire extinguisher), getting supplies (gas, replacement parts), getting everything there (and home) and setting up (and taking down) our base in the paddock.
Less obvious are things like - where's the sawzall? where's the spare fuel pump? where's the next driver? why is the car coming in the pits and we are not up there? why are we not recording laps when the car is on the track? etc etc.
There could also be wrenching involved depending on the severity of the problem and your skill behind a wrench and our car's ability to stay together.

SO WHAT HAPPENED??????? I've been expecting pictures and videos!
Re: Volunteers needed for 2011 Nelson Ledges Chump Car Race
Nelson Ledges Longer Longest Day 25:25:25 ChumpCar’s was run October 8-9 2011 and the MostMint Racing Team was there.
The Saturn 5 was race ready after months of preparation by this dedicated team.
Before Left……………….................before front…………..........……..before right

After left…………....................………after front…………...........………..after right

Night pit stop…………...............……..Statistics……………...............…….Team

The Mostmint team and their support staff were relentless, wheel bearing failures, fender benders,
bent struts, electrical problems, many spins and off track excursions would not stop them,
they were running strong when the Checker Flag flew.

Re: Volunteers needed for 2011 Nelson Ledges Chump Car Race
In a word, it was AWESOME. Loved it! Kudos to Mostmint for an excellent organizational effort. I felt we were well prepared, and executed well too. We wouldn't have been nearly as successful without all our friends/family that came out to help, too.
Aside from the Left-Front wheel bearing issues, the car ran flawless. A stainless braided brake-line failure was completely unexpected, but resolved in less than an hour. We had a minor electrical problem around 10pm, but VeeDub found the issue and we had it fixed within 20 minutes. It was the only thing we had worked on in our car prep that had failed.
The wheel-to-wheel racing was great. I had never done it before, and on my first out-lap, I ended up in the middle of a pack of cars and performed my first pass of a slower car within a half-lap. So much for trying to ease into the swing of it.
We succeeded in our goal of having the car running at the finish to take the checkered flag. If we had had a second spare bearing&hub assembly, we would've been able to run the night portion and significantly improve our finishing position.
I'll try to post pictures later, or look for me (David Studly) on Facebook and send me a friend request. I uploaded pictures there that my sister took.
