With good traction and a good stall converter 400 rear wheel HP should take you into the low 12's easy. IIRC Tiresmoker was making a little over 300 at the wheels and I am pretty sure he was running 12.80's or 90's at the time.
I would guess you have a good chance to make 11's on that HP if you can get traction.

Yep, I put down 308HP/363TQ on a Dynojet dyno within days of running 12.80s.MostMint wrote:With good traction and a good stall converter 400 rear wheel HP should take you into the low 12's easy. If you get 400HP/475TQ, I bet you'd be in the 11s, or real close if the gearing was less than ideal.

Well,
I started looking at the engine and it looks good.
The bottom end is CLEAN, the rocker areas look CLEAN so I think I will bolt it back together and set it in the car once I remove the old trans and install the TH350. This way I can get it running and then if I decide to remove the engine for a rebuild later (with the front clip off the car) it should be easy.

Who was it that said - 'I'm tired of fighting technology, with displacement'
Well, it was our one, and only, - administrator! Who, BTW, has the best of both worlds!
As for me, I'll take carbureted displacement, over twin cammed, turbocharged, fart can equipped, sticker laden aero winged, ricer, any day.....
Bigger, really is better.
Olds 455, nice.

Engine and Trans prep for test fit.
I was preparing to do a test fit of the engine/trans in the Chevelle this holiday but am now at a hold point.
The GOOD news, the engine and trans were de-greased and pressure washed.
The old power glide was removed from the chassis and is ready to go bye bye.
The BAD news, upon cleaning and painting I discovered a crack in the trans case.
It looks to go a good 50% of the way around the case.
So it looks like I have to find another trans or a good 350 case and ATTEMPT my first trans-plant.

By the way I changed my mind on the engine color as you can see.
