need cage work done

Post by MostMint »

I need someone who can bend 1.5" .120" thickness mild steel and do some fabrication work to bring the race car cage up to spec. I need one bar added on the driver side.

I also need someone with welding skill to attach 1/4" plate to the floor pan - er - actually to fill a few holes made by the last guy when he tried to do it.

I don't expect to get this for free - hoping to get a reasonable price.

Any suggestions?

I can weld, and my prices are very reasonable. If you need bending, try Paul Carson... I bet his bender would do that.

BP should be able to handle the welding and his suggestion on bending might be good, but some of the exhaust guys might not want to use their tube benders on the heavy wall stuff. I had my cage tubes bent by the Fastech guys (no idea if they are still around) in Eastlake and I did all the fitting and mig welding. The only thing that strikes me as odd is welding the cage to the floor. For IHRA back in those days, I think we were supposed to bolt the cage to the floor by sandwiching the floor between 1/8" plates. Welding to a thin floor pan seems weak to me, but the rules should address this. It might also differ for different legs of the cage.

What they do is require you to use a flat plate so you are attaching to a larger area of the floor. Since this is a unibody car it's not like it can be attached to the frame. You can see some of it in the pics thread in the crap can forum. I'll PM you the password.

Thanks for the info.
