Hey guys, does anyone have a chevy-pattern TH350, or know where there is a known-good one for relatively cheap? Fatica is looking for one to replace the Powerglide in his '69 Chevelle. Been looking on craigslist of course, but figured I'd ask here too. Nothing special, just stock..

Tell Tony to do himself a favor and put in a 4 speed automatic. It does wonders down the road for making more speed and drivability. It will help all over, bottom end, and freeway cruising. 4l60e should not be too tough to find, but may require some engineering to put in, but he certainly would not be the first guy to install one in that body style. Just food for thought from a guy who's wagon was well in the 14's with that trans package, and used as a daily driver.

No more TH350's in my garage - sorry.
If you want a 4 speed automatic, you'll have to go old school - either the 700R4 or the smaller one - was that a 250? (The one in the Buick Grand National)
The 700R4 requires a shorter driveshaft, crossmember moving back and getting the TV cable right.

200r4 .... the 442 had one of those in it. The ones in the Grand Nationals and the 442's were the "good" ones and are highly sought after. There was a run of the mill one that I am sure he can get cheap. The 700r4 was better. I haven't researched the 4l60e outside of an electronic car. How much was the kit to make one go in there?????

Actually, the 200r4 is the better trans to have. It has better gear splits. GN guys run them into the 9s. They say when both are properly built, the 200r4 is better than the 700r4. ("they" being some of the internet forums like chevelles.com and chevytalk.com) It's also the same length as a Turbo 350 & powerglide, so no driveshaft mod is needed.GMJohnny wrote:200r4 .... the 442 had one of those in it. 200-4r: 2.74, 1.57, 1.00, 0.67
700r4: 3.06, 1.63, 1.00, 0.70
th350: 2.52, 1.52, 1.00
pg: 1.76, 1.00
Fatica and I both would prefer to get 200r4's, but getting a built one is close to $2000. A stock one could certainly live behind his stock 307, but I wonder what would happen behind my Chupposic 406.
As for the electronics to run an E transmission (4L60E, 4L80E, and now the newer 6LxxE), the aftermarket controllers (or stand alone GM controller) are something around $1000. You can do some neat things, like programming the line pressure and shift points, but still... lotta extra dough.
But getting back to the topic, while the 200-4r is ultimately desired, the budget at this time is calling for a much cheaper TH350.
