Made Smoke
With the weather finally coming around, I cranked up the Nova, and took her down the street, several times - open headers and all....
Not haveing reached operating temp, I didn't do any WFO blasts - I wanted too, but... nope. However, I did leave several feet of embeded rubber in my own driveway. Nothing like being 16 all over agian.

HMMM!
I bet you used your helmet for that test run just like some other guys.
Wearing helmets can be so much fun.

Moving things back
The axle is now out of the Nova.
It's time to move the thing back an inch, maybe inch and a quarter. The end result will have the tire, centered in the wheel opening. It's pretty straight forward on a leaf spring car. There are several ways to go about it. I've decided to make a pseudo leaf, to locate the axle on the spring, then have an offset hole/pin to the desired distance.
BP-
Did you retain the rubber isolators when you did your slapper bars?

The 1.25 move
Thanks BP.
I'm retaining the isolators too. The final move is 1.25in. My adaptor plates should be back from NASA, (my neighbor works there) after welding in a pin, that duplicates the centering pin on the spring, just the given distance off.

Long enough
As it is now, the tranny yoke damn near bottoms out in the tail section of my th400. Say 95% engagement, over a 6in span. Loosing 1.25in yields ~78% engagement. I don't think it'll be an issue.
The tranny and driveshaft are the ONLY drivetrain components I haven't changed out. And, I DO have a 700r4 and a converter, 'in the wing'...

Need Pipes
The axle has been successfully moved back 1.25 inches. Looks good. In the process, it also sits .25in lower... can't even notice. I was gona take some pics along the way, but I got motivated Sunday evening, and, well, it's done. No pics.
Next up, is an exhaust. I'm himmin' and hawin', and haven't made a decision as to where to take it. If it goes to Novelty to BPs guy, I'd have to leave it. I don't feel too comfortable doing that. I'd have to call my insurance, (American Collector) and see about getting theft and vandalism coverage, -short term - just in case...
Anyway, it runs and makes noise.

Plans are now in the works for a 'real' and hopefully final exhaust system for the Nova. I tried calling BPs guy, but the number is no longer in service... So, I'm planning late this week to take it to 'Lake County Radiator and Exhaust'. It's off Lane Rd, north of Rt20. I've talked to the guy, stopped in and saw the shop, and feel relatively comfortable leaving it overnite. Should be ready for the weekend of June 21st.
That said, first trip to Thompson should be June 25th. She went 13.07 with the iron manifolds, 2.25 pipes, and 2in tailpipes. Now with headers, 'X' pipe and full 2.5in plumbing, 12.90s are just around the corner. I'll bring my Edelbrock kit to adjust for some anticipated addition fuel needed at the top end.
In the back of my mind... is the 100mph club at 42.
MostMint, maybe we both can head down to 42 for this. That is, provided, ya break the ol' Firebird, (or is it a TA), out of moth balls....

The TA is not the only car I have that can make that club. With the K&N and some free flowing exhaust the SS should do it too ir the air is right. TA seriously on back burner atm with Camaro head gasket project, work project, kid baseball, insert rest of excuses here. I will keep it in mind.markss327 wrote:In the back of my mind... is the 100mph club at 42.
