MarkC5 and Autocross

Post by Fred32v »

MarkC5 is having trouble logging into TireSmoke, but here is what he has provided for those of us who are interested in Autocross.

Here’s the information about autocross which I was going to post:
If anyone is interested in running in an autocross race, here’s what you need to race:
A vehicle (just about any vehicle is acceptable – I’ve never seen a truck event though they may be allowed)
A helmet with a SNELL 2000 rating
When are the races? There are 3 clubs in the area, Northeast Ohio Race Association (NORA), Akron Sports Car Club (ASCC) and NEOhio.

Go here for NORA events http://www.noraracing.net/events.php

Go here for ASCC events http://www.autox.net/autocross.php

Go here for NEOhio events http://www.neohio-scca.org/solo/flyers_ ... Sheet1.pdf

All events start at 8:30 in the morning (always on Sunday) and usually finish at about 3pm. They usually run 3 groups of cars. When you are not running, you must work during one other run group. By work, I mean stand out on the course and reset cones knocked over by other drivers.

Next event is Sunday July 15th. It’s a NORA event at the Lake County Captains stadium (parking lot) Eastlake, OH.

Note: August 12th is a special NORA event at Northfield Park. This is an exceptionally good track because it’s much larger than most, plus there are elevation changes (a.k.a. challenging!). You can reach speeds of up to 60 MPH just before the 90 degree turn.

I race at just about every NORA and ASCC event.

Mark's ID may have been taken out in the cleanup after Tiresmoker got the new filter for spam IDs. He should sign up for a new ID (or the same ID).

I'm 90% sure that they don't allow trucks to autocross, per SCCA rules. As mentioned in another post, there's a problem with the registration process that I'll get to this weekend.

Autocross at Eastlake Captains Baseball

Post by Fred32v »

On Sunday September 9th, there is a Nora 2007 Autocross event at the Eastlake Captains Baseball stadium.
If I can work it out I'm going to try to get there and observe. I expect that MarkC5 will be there.
Check out the Nora link above. Anyone else interested?

Autocross Sunday, Not for Sissies

Post by Fred32v »

Got rained out on the 9th, but the 16th was beautiful. So I ventured down to Hartville to RIDE with MarkC5
while he was participating in the NORA Autocross event. Wow, what a ride!

Changing tires, adjusting shocks, etc...............Putting numbers on............................Waiting to run
ImageImageImage

Well run event, equipment can be from stock to anything goes, classes for everyone.

Ready Set GO!............................................Hard left after very quick right...................Result, five runs each faster
.ImageImageImage

You haven't lived until your siding sideways at the top of second gear. After MarkC5's last run, the announcer said
he was within .3 seconds of the class leader. MarkC5's best for this course was 44.30 seconds.
That's a very busy 3/4th of a minute. Many thanks to MarkC5 for inviting me along.

Another AutoCross Sunday

Post by Fred32v »

Another AutoCross Sunday, this time at the Eastlake Captains parking lot, a smaller, tighter (if that's possible),
and every bit as challenging a course as at the Hartville Flee Market.
Large crowd mostly competitors........................Tim's Vette SS Ready...............MarkC5 getting ready, tougher class
ImageImageImage

At the Start...........................................................On a good run.....................................Getting your time slip
ImageImageImage

TimSS (w/sticky tires) was in the low 42 sec in his class, MarkC5 cracked well into the 39's and had a top time
with congratuations from serveral fellow competitors. There is some handicapping going on,
that I don't yet understand so I don't know if he came out on top. Whatever the result,
MarkC5 was wearing a large satisfying smile when I left him. :)
