Re: 1996 Collector Edition Corvette

ODO: 104168 For the last several days I've been actively working on several things simultaneously. First, the fuel pump. I took another dive into the fuel tank to replace the small piece of standard FI hose attached to the fuel pump. The new hose is immersible in fuel. While I was in there, I decide...

Re: 1987 Corvette Z52

Be sure to check carefully for evidence of movement at the front and rear attachment points of the C beam that Andy just mentioned. It's not uncommon on C4s, for the two ends of the C beam to loosen a little over time.

Re: 1996 Collector Edition Corvette

I went to NAPA and bought some "fuel injection Hose". It was about $8 a foot. It seemed quite expensive, but I needed it. When I got home, for some reason, I started researching the hose I bought. I quickly learned that this hose is not to be used for "in tank" applications. What...

Re: 1996 Collector Edition Corvette

Cleaning up my work bench this afternoon, I found the remaining piece of fuel hose I used to replace the one that had burst. In the back of my mind I heard Maverick whispering to me "be sure to use fuel injection hose". Well...the hose on there now is SAE 30R6 with rated working pressure o...

Re: 1996 Collector Edition Corvette

ODO: 104127 I tore apart the dash today to remove the HVAC controller because a few of the buttons were not responding. I followed this video: https://youtu.be/KBeqA1n9q9A which demonstrates how to clean the contacts on each push button. When I got it back together it was a yuge success. All the but...

Re: 1996 Collector Edition Corvette

The bog is noticeable at 43.5 psi (stock) and makes it difficult to easily coordinate the clutch and gas when starting from a stop. Unless I carefully pedal it off the line, it will stall. I plan to increase the fuel pressure to make it better. It's my goto solution. In addition, the driver's seat b...

This is the one I have: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000C ... UTF8&psc=1
It has special bracketing to mount to the LT1 fuel rail. The gauge is extra.

The FP wasn't the problem

We pulled out the fuel sending assembly to replace the fuel pump and noticed a blown out hose that attaches the fuel pump to the rest of the fuel system. What a surprise! This explains the 5 psi on the fuel pressure gauge. Too bad I already bad-mouthed the Delphi fuel pump. It was doing it's best to...

Re: 1996 Collector Edition Corvette

Maverick called and urged me to jumper the pump directly to the battery, so I did. I saw similar symptoms. The pump puts out only about 5 psi. The order is in for the Walbro.

Fuel pump symptoms

I did a bit of diagnosis today. I put an ammeter on the FP fuse and turned on the ignition. The meter went to 2.9 amps and then to zero in a few seconds. The FP gauge quickly registered 5 psi, then zero. Then, to check for some sort of blockage in the fuel system, I removed the output fuel hose from...

Re: 1987 Corvette Z52

It's exciting to know that your Vette is back on the road. Not so much that mine is out of commission and back in the garage. :(

Thank goodness for Hagerty

ODO: 104016 I took Silvia out to pick up dinner this evening. She was running perfectly with the fuel pressure set at 46 psi. On the way back she just quit. I took a quick peek at the fuel pressure while on the side of the road and it was ZERO when I turned the key on. Could it be another failure of...

Re: 1996 Collector Edition Corvette

ODO: 103989 On Tuesday, I took Silvia out to stretch her legs. On the way, I noticed that a "Check Gauges" message had appeared on the dash. This is a warning that the PCM puts out to tell the driver that it had detected an issue on one of the gauges. I looked over them quickly and could n...

Re: 1996 Collector Edition Corvette

ODO: 103940 I drove Silvia in actual Raleigh traffic this morning and the throttle response at the recommended fuel pressure of 43.5 psi proved to be unsatisfying again, so I started to incrementally bump up the fuel pressure. Each time I added 1 psi, the drivability improved. When I got it running ...
