New 383 SBC for my 1969 Malibu

On a sunny, 42 degree afternoon at TRP last November, it became painfully clear that the piston rings in my 350 were toast.

An engine builder down in Dayton named Bruce Parson (who builds a lot of Stock Eliminator motors) came highly recommended.....so down to Dayton I (and my engine parts) went.

Here's what I eventually came back with:

SBC 383, one piece block. Zero deck. Line Honed. Balanced to within +/- half a gram. Forged Mahle Pistons making 10:1 compression, Eagle crank and rods, Custom Mike Jones HR Cam (228/233 @ 50, 544/533 lift with 1.6 Scorpion Roller Rockers), GM LS HR Lifters, same eTec 170 Heads worked over a bit by Bruce Parsons, same RPM Air Gap Intake, and new Holley 770 Street Avenger Carb....which is the only part that I'm unhappy with.

Motor made 360 HP and 360 TQ on TI Dyno's Mustang Chassis Dyno on June 6th (D-Day)....which I'm thrilled about. Pulls were made in third gear. I'll gladly post some ET and MPH from TRP when I have them.

I also purchased a custom, 10 inch, 2800 stall converter from Edge Racing Converters. It's remarkably civilized/tight. In other words, it's no Kardashian girl.

Last but certainly not least, a sincere Thank You to TireSmoker and Basement Paul for some first class help on the motor install two weekends ago.

This....should be fun!

The painful wait is over, but worth it! Now it's time to enjoy!

Picked Dave up for a short drive through the Geauga County back roads tonight. Car was running pretty good/strong. Very happy with it thus far.

Upcoming Wednesday looks to have a hi temp of 72 with a low of 54.....although rain is possible. That's probably going to be as good as it gets at TRP until September.

Fingers crossed......
