Race fuel

Post by TheRookie »

Does anyone know where you can get or order super high octane gas like VP109 in the Cleveland area? I may be interested in getting some as some of the limits on my future turbo setup will be dependent on this. IIRC, the stuff at the tracks is leaded and a no go.

Chardon Oil used to carry race fuel, but you may want to check and see if it's leaded or not.

The Racing fuel at Chardon Oil has lead in it, I read that on the pump.

I remember calling Chardon Oil a couple summers ago and it seemed they had a variety of race fuels. I want to say about 4 different kinds. Be prepared for a little sticker shock.

Back in the day, the Union 76 @ Bell & Philomathean in Chagrin Falls sold 100 octane unleaded and 108 octane leaded fuel. They still might.

Of course, they sell it right a Thompson, too.

I was chatting with TS about it and he said to try Hutter. Low and behold, they carry Cam 2 - I believe 105 - in a big tank out back. I guess that's where Kevin fuels up his car. So there you have it, a trusted source that is on the way to the track. They aren't officially open on Saturdays, but usually someone is around. Now I need to actually buy that tune...

Had some free time this afternoon, so I gave a call to Chardon Oil to get the rundown on their race gas offerings.

Here's the basic list:

cam2 purple, leaded, 110 octane (pump octane) **
cam2 blue, leaded, 112 octane
cam2 red, leaded, 116 octane

vp c12, leaded, 108 octane (motor)
vp c14, leaded, 114 octane
vp c16, leaded, 117 octane
vp u4.2, unleaded, 108 octane*
vp ms109, unleaded, 101 octane (motor)

sunoco 260gt, unleaded, 99 octane (motor)
sunoco 260gt+, unleaded, 95 octane

* New product, not yet available
** This is the only fuel sold from a pump. All others are sold in 5-gallon buckets, or by the 55-gallon drum.

He kept saying "xx motor octane" where as on the first cam2 listed, he said "pump octane". I'm guessing motor octane is the MON number.
