After getting home on Sunday evening, leaving the bike alone on Monday, being sick on Tuesday, still sick today with a miserable head cold (can I trade vacation days for sick days??) I decided to look into my spark plug issue. It seems like the common solutions are to 1) Goop up the front plug spark plug boot with dielectric grease and 2) make sure the spark plug drain hole is free & clear. (see pic) 3) make a small shield hung under the radiator to deflect water from getting in there in the first place. 4) Get a front fender extrension (same idea as 3) #1 & #2 seem to suffice for most people.

If I'm feeling better soon, I'll probably replace the plugs. You'd think having only 2 would be easy, but the front require removing the radiator from its mounts (dont need to drain it, I hope) and the rear requires me lifting the tank (tank is hinged at the rear, pivots up-- doesn't have to come all the way off)

I didn't know about the spark plug drain hole before. Maybe some road grime got in there and clogged it up a bit.

Chrome Plating Discussion

Post by Fred32v »

I don't remember the discussion about chrome plating the "boomerangs"
but this a picture if that helps.

That's the vendor. You don't remember where she was, do you? One plater was in the North Field and one was in the SW corner of the Main Field near Gate 1.

How about emailing the hi res picture to jsarnold@aol.com. Maybe I can find a clue. You do a great job with the pictures.

Thanks.

Back to the smashed car... was there a police chase in front of you?? How the heck do you crash into a cop car?

Crash

Post by wxo »

The story we got from one of the people who got to the scene first was that the driver of the smashed Scion swerved to avoid a rock in the road and hit the police car or the police car hit her. Interestingly there were zero skid marks. Jim noted the scratches on the hood of the Scion and suggested that the car might have been upside down at some point. The accident happened at the top of a hill so we arrived from a lower point in the road and thus could not see any of the action unfolding. The other interesting thing to me was the fact that there were no airbags deployed.

We could only see the cop car from the rear and no damage was evident. They took both cars away on rollbacks, though. The driver was up and walking around after the crash. When EMS arrived, they loaded her on a gurney and took her away. Also interesting, was a gas can sticking out of the smashed rear of the car (see earlier post photo). Notice also the right front strut poking through the fender.

Wasn't there some project for wxo that we were supposed to harass him about after this event?

I recall some discussion about the seat but can't recall if that was it.

BTW - Any powered lazy boys need to be electric so we don't have to listen to that engine all day.

For all project, service and maintenance activities, I require a properly filled out Maintenace Request Form (MRF). They will be prioritized and acted upon as time permits. Ask Randi. She will explain how it works.

I have begun work on the 2009 Carlisle DVD. I'm taking suggestions on the musical theme/genre if anyone wants to submit their ideas. Normally I do the chosing, but I thought I'd open it up a bit to suggestions (if I like them).
If I don't come up with any good ideas, I think I'll go with classical Gregorian chant.

On the trip to Carlisle you could start with the OVERHAULIN theme "Gasoline".
Once you get to the swap meet you go "Searchin'" by the Coaster 50's classic song,
then eventually you see the part your looking for, "I Found You".
Afterward you can party with "Rye Whiskey" by Tex Ritter.
I don't know about the younger fellas, but something from Joe Fedorchak as a fill might be fun.
Then there's always the songs we play by Chuck Berry and the Beach Boys.

Whoa...I'll have to give a listen to all those. I don't recognize most of them by their names.
