For the less psychic, the car in the link is the replacement for the ETC which was traded in.

Faster Than My '68 Camaro SS396?

Post by Fred32v »

Up until now my fastest quarter mile car was my 1968 Camaro SS396, with 350 hp. It ran 13.92sec, 105.6 mph. The blue Oldsmoblies were in the high 13.90's, but just barely over 100mph. With a little practice, traction compund, and go weather, I hope to have my career best ET and MPH. A time of 13.7's or 8's would be most satisfying with a speed of 106 mph. Motor Trend was able to turn 13.10's @ 108 mph. Some other reviews had it in the middle of the 13's. It seems that traction and the launch are critical, I'm looking forward to the challenge.
Then there is the matter of Basement Paul's '69 Cadillac and Johnny442's '00 Buick GS. It would be fun to run with WXO's Yellow Vette if he doesn't sell it.

Blower vs ????

Post by wxo »

Hmmm...sounds like a challenge to me. Well, I guess if you can run a blower, then it would only be fair if I step up the competition a little. If I end up in your neighborhood I have been warned and I will be prepared for the faceoff. Just like in the olden days. I know the DeWalt machine will run 13.50's. Time to start practicing holeshots.

Serious Challenge

Post by Fred32v »

Just to put things into perspective time wise, I purchased my 1998 Camaro SS396 in 1971.
WXO and I have been racing each other one way or another ever since.
It just makes for a really great friendship.

The more things are different, the more they're the same. The Camaro was a big block
automatic and the Chevy II was a small block 4 speed. Except for the number of gears,
the Corvette is a small block and the supercharger in the STS makes it a big block.
OK, best out of three runs for a hamburger?! :)

The dude in the first picture in the Chevy II has some nice side burns. (Walt)

And the guy in the Camaro has a NICE white helmet. (I think I've seen it in the basement.)

I'm loving the bad ass 442 coming up the return road too.

So it's settled, for pictures sake, the Corvette gets the pit lane (again).

(hey Walt, for a small fee, I'll jockey that yellow beast again)

Me thinks ether of those cars would have a hard time keeping up with your current equipment.

Walt, I chased the ghost of that Camaro for a long time so I know what it ran in the 1/4. What did your car run?

My Nova ran in the mid 14's. Man it sure is good to see that sweet machine again. It brings back a lot of good memories.
327 ci, 275 hp, 4spd, 3.08 posi and duals with thrush mufflers.
Fast, but with the world's lousiest brakes.

STS-V @ TRP

Post by Fred32v »

With much pressure from Basement Paul and Johnny442, I was forced into taking the STS-V out to TRP.
With temperature and humidity in the mid 80's and no traction, conditions were not terrific. With no planned
preparations and a half a tank of gas, STS-V was ready to run. Well the first pass hot off the street was 13.875 at
102.445. Eventually had a best of 13.734. Best 60' was 2.109 and w/o traction control it would have be much worse.

Johnny442 was out in the first round and Basement's big Buick was out in the second round, but Fred32v made it
to the money run. Put up a .511 light against a .528, but a 13.769 on a 13.80 dial got me the Runner-Up trophy.
But boy was it GREAT fun!!! The STS-V is absolutely sensational, what a ride!!! Also the old guy still has it.

This is the fastest you have gone in the 1/4 mile - no? 8) I think that this and wxo's Vette would be a good race too, though you might need another tenth or two.

BTW you really should start a thread on this car. Maybe in projects, maybe general discussion. Lots of little things getting fixed/changed to your liking, no documentation here.

Oh and "forced", my eye. I would believe you were forced if you took mother's car. :)

You had to run a 10.90 car in finals? Ouch.
