Datona race Course Damage

I was there for some of Speed Week in 1960 and watched the motorcycle race run partly on that beach. Back then, the expense was small enough that a team could enter with no sponsorship. An army buddy from NJ knew a no-sponsor driver that came in 6th. He got infield pit passes for us. The Hudsons were dominant for a few years with a 306 CI (IIRC) "Twin H" flat-head six with 4.5" stroke and two single-barrel carbs. I put one of those engines in a '46 Hudson coupe. Replaced the head with one from a smaller displacement Hudson six with smaller combustion chambers and had a torque monster. Nothing beat me off the line, but some would overtake me pretty quickly. Broke a bunch of clutch discs. That website brought back some good memories.
