TRP 8-19-20

Post by Basement Paul »

Last night was a fun night at TRP and the weather for Aug was amazing. Temps probably about 75 on down to in the upper 50's by the end of the evening was good for ETs and break outs. I got three time runs and I got there at 5pm, which is early. There were a ton of cars and even spectators, it was cool. My first two passes were a 12.24 and 12.23 with my 3rd pass being a tire spinning 12.34, so not helpful. I was a little more focused this week on consistency than the last couple times out, making sure to keep the truck all warmed up, and paying more attention to my burnouts and reaction times.

For eliminations (STOCK Class) I dialed a 12.17 initially. My first round was a newer Challenger dialed 13.5, and I could tell he was either new or didn't have much experience so I held back on my RT. His was .40 to my .11, and I ran a 12.35 pedaling to his 13.53. Easy win. Round 2 I was pulled for the BYE, but with even cars I didn't get that. Instead I got a red light in the other lane and was able to run it out. I spun a little off the line and ran a 12.24 on a 12.20 dial.
Round 3 was a stick shift 2002 Camaro anniversary car. I talked to him earlier because I really liked his car, but knew he wasn't a big threat. His 13.50 dial to my 12.17 again. He ran 13.93 with a .45 light to my .1 light and a 12.54. Round 4 got more serious. I ran a G8 dialed at 12.00 to my 12.21. I cut a .07 light to his .16. Double breakout, but I broke out by less with a 12.16 to his 11.87. I was first to the stripe, but only by .01.
Now I'm in the Semi finals with three cars left. Me, Olds Mike in his '68 Cutlass, and the vintage Hemi RoadRunner. We pull for the BYE but it wasn't me so I got to race Mike. He's tough. I dialed a 12.15 based on my previous 12.16 run to Mike's 13.08. I cut an .04 RT and ran a 12.19 dial and lost... Mike was on his game and cut an .02 light and ran a 13.09. Game Over. I'll take a loss like that any day.

Sooo much fun hanging out with Dad and other track friends on a beautiful night. I'll let 32V tell his tale.

Oh yeah, I developed the most annoying rattle under the truck after my 3rd time run and it kept getting worse. After the 3rd round I traced it down to a broken muffler. It's rattling inside like 10 baby rattles. I'm pretty sure it's a lifetime warranty DynoMax. I found the receipt and it's four years old and apparently can't handle the power! But, I like the way it sounds and the rest of the exhaust is fit to it, so I'll stick to it for now and hopefully get another free one.

The evening started out in the 70s. I had two time runs.the 1st had a 2.23 light going 15.11@ 91.78, then back into staging a little before it closed. Tried to pay attention to my light, ok 0.855 going 15.02 @ 92.48. The GMC was getting faster.
I was going to run the Truck class and had to wait for a call to the lane only after the Stock class went one round. That took quite some time, there were 12 trucks. The temperature dropped like a rock into the high 50s.
1st round I dialed 14.95 with a 0.0602 light against a .3208 and coasted in with a 15.10 @ 80.22.
2nd round dialed 14.90 with a 0.2610 light (after the .06 didn't want a red) against a .6094 taking it easy 15.07 @ 85.36. 3 trucks left, I missed my chance for a by run.
3rd round stayed with 14.90 dial had a .2145 light against a 0.0821, I ran hard out 15.08 @ 92.49 and a .2157 win, opponent missed dial by .5 sec..
Final round. Surprised by the last run I dialed 15.10 with a 0.10 light against a 0.02 and ran 14.97 @ 92.74 mph, I got there first but a double breakout gave the win light to my opponent.

Way to go, Fred. Bitter-sweet end for the night but dipping into the 14's should put a smile on your face.

OOPS, they don't have Mustangs in the Truck class. (disregard what was here before, gettin' old shows.)
This pretty Mustang was my first time trial run.
He ran 12.68 @ 105.75 with a .4077 light,
my 1st pass was 15.11 @ 91.78 with a .2650 light.
