My experience with broken taps, in cast iron...... has not been pleasant.
Are any flutes visible? Is it accessible with a pair of needle-nose pliers?

Can you heat the head, oxy/acetylene, not just a benz-o-matic, but get the head hot enough, to expand the hole, and use the needle nose, to 'unwind' the tap.

Good luck.

Hang onto the head until Fall. Then we can make a project out of removing the tap. Who knows it might take a week.

Tap Removed

Post by Fred32v »

This morning I took this head to Rick's Garage looking for a miracle. I thought this head was done and we would be required to find another one. Not readily available. Well it took Rick about 3 minutes to remove that villain broken tap. Most of that time was spent getting out his WALTON TAP EXTRACTOR set. UNBELIEVIBLE!!!! This is a set of tools that every garage should have. I can not explain the relief I felt when he easily cranked that deeply imbedded broken tap out of the GT's head. Another happy ending.:D
