The Golf has always been Buick quiet. IMO it's too quiet but there was a simple upgrade to the noise levels without being too loud. The Golfs have a huge resonator running right down the middle of the car. The nice thing about it is that it's straight, and held on with a factory slip over clamp at the front so removing it is one cut on the backside.
It is a metric pipe, which I figured out while measuring a couple weeks ago and doing my online research. Luckily Summit had a 5' section in stock. I bought some reducers just in case, but the pipe on the other side of the resonator was just small enough that it slid inside the new replacement pipe. This made welding it up pretty easy.
Performance-wise, I'm sure it didn't help a whole lot if any, but it shaved about 10 lbs and got me just a little sportier exhaust note. It's barely louder inside the car with the windows closed, and really only under full throttle. I was almost hoping it was a tiny bit louder, but I don't want it to be obnoxious and I'm not putting a muffler on it, so I'm calling it good.

The Golf got it's yearly oil change yesterday. 4432miles in 364 days.... This car sits a lot anymore. It will be three years old at the end of February and it currently has 21750 miles on it.

Today since it was nice out, I vacuumed a summer's worth of dog fur out, put the snow shoes on, and gave it a good bath. Ready for winter.
