I had no plans for taking the Vette to the track until BP egged me on by telling me his Vette would be faster than me. The weather was right yesterday, so I decided to get my helmet out of storage and head to the track. I haven’t really played around with this car (burnouts/high speed), so I was in learning mode at the track. I decided to do burnouts with traction control off, and race with it on. First pass was 12.24 @ 114.90. I was satisfied as all I’ve read about this car is it should run 12.40’s. Pass 2 was a 12.23 @ 117.20 - but BP put a 12.21 on me…. This made things real fun! After a bit of cool down, I ran a 12.19 and a 12.15. I went into eliminations dialing 12.10. Round 1, my opponent was in the 10’s, so he gave me the jump. I had a nice light and he popped the red bulb. I knew I had the win, so I ran it out and to a 12.15. Figuring I was at my fastest for the night, I dialed a 12.13 for round 2. The Dodge I ran dialed 12.12, so it was set to be pretty tight. I staged, treed the guy, and by 1/2 track he was WAY back there. I was feeling pretty fast toward the end of the track and thought about winding it through for a good ET, but decided to put on the brakes to get the win. I lost in a huge breakout, running 12.04 @ 113.22. In my stage process, I inadvertently forgot to turn the traction control ON to race. Cool mistake! The track was prepped real well, and I had no spin at all. Fortunately for me, there were very few cars there, so we could test-n-tune another run. I pulled in, smoked the tires hot, and lined up. 11.99 @ 118.13. I was pretty excited with the number and called it a night. I couldn’t be happier with the results! I have no intentions of doing any mods to go faster, so the only thing that will make me faster is better weather. My very drivable street car is in the 11’s.

41,000 …. With the threat of a snow storm on Monday, I figured it was just about time to
call it a season. After doing a bit of internet research, the recommended way to store your
C6 ( same for C4 & C5 ) is at 1/4 tank. ( This is done in an attempt to keep the contacts on
the fuel sending unit dry, so they don’t get ethanol gas corrosion on the contacts and cause a
fuel gauge failure. ) I never did this on my C-5, and didn’t do it last year on this car, but figured
what the heck. it can’t hurt if the majority of guys are doing it. Iv’ve been on the 1/4 tank alert
for a couple of weeks and last night I was at about 3/8. I took a 40 mile ride with GMAmy and it
got me to exactly 3500 miles since I’ve owned it (about 1000 more than I would put on my Oldsmobiles
in a year ) and 1/4 tank. Sometime in the next week I put a battery tender on it and cover it until spring.
I’ll give it an oil change then when the weather warms a bit. I continue to have the mentality of no
foreseeable upgrades and am enjoying it as the engineers designed it. So far, this car has been perfect
and has done exactly what i wanted it to do…. even better with the time slip I got!
