So now I'm consistently getting over 17mpg, even after hauling 1800 lbs for about 55 miles. Not long after I bought my S-10, I put on a throttle body spacer to help improve mileage, and it actually worked pretty well (over 1mpg better) so I thought this might be a good idea here.
I won an Airaid spacer on auction for $50 shipped to my house where the next cheapest one I saw was in an ebay store for almost $70 plus shipping, and it needed one of the two gaskets replaced.
I put it on this morning, and I just filled up yesterday, so I'll be able to tell if it helps my mileage out or not. I'd say performance-wise it's slightly better, but nothing to write home about. Hopefully if it gets me even 1/2mpg, it will pay for itself quickly.
My best MPG to date is 18.7. Eventually I'll get over 19... At Carlisle I bought a new Pypes muffler for the truck. I was hoping to get more sound out of it without it being too loud. They had a street turbo muffler I bought, and after installing it, it really didn't make it much louder. It sounds better at idle and under light load, but at WOT, it seems to be about the same. I think the single 2.5" pipe is just not enough. Unless the original pipes go bad though, I'm probably not going to change it. I'm thinking after time, it will get a little louder.
