I just replaced the tank on my wife's 2000 Chevy Lumina. The replacement was a new tank - an exact match for the old tank except for the seam where the top and bottom halves of the tank are connected. What I discovered after the tank was 3/4 in was the seams were sticking out too far, and interfering with my ability to get the tank straps on. Since I had already connected how many wires and hoses to the tank, I got a piece of wood and a hammer and bent the lip down a bit further than the manufacturer had - so it looked more like the OE tank.
When I was done I realized I had the same problem when I did the tank on a 98 Lumina I had a couple years back. This would have taken just a couple minutes to do if the tank was not installed yet.
Maybe I can save someone some trouble by posting it here.
