Could be a little tricky with all our trucks. 50% of the US population is within 500 miles of Columbus. That's why it's such a huge distribution hub. Sometimes fast cars and slow trucks is not cool. I think I remember reading that most cars get their best mileage around 45mph from an efficiency vs aerodynamics factor.

I'm not opposed to going faster. I'm just opposed to the other 80% of the population that doesn't know how to drive going faster I've always said they need to adopt some sort of system like ski slopes. If you can race, you get a 4 diamond pass and can go 100 in certain lanes. If you can barely see over the steering wheel grandma and go 40, so be it. Heck, if we can have lanes for 2+ passengers, why not this? Yes, I know I'm crazy. Just wishful thinking is all.

I've always maintained that the time saved by driving faster outweighs any extra fuel expense. Even at $4/gallon.

My previous RX-7 got best fuel economy at 80mph. Did almost 33mpg on one trip. I realize that this is the exception rather than the rule, but it's still something I find amusing.

My current car on the other hand tops out around 80mph, maybe 90mph if I feel like letting the poor engine hammer along at about 5k.

Well, in the SOUTH we have 65mph and 70mph zones everywhere. If you're not doing 75mph you're getting run over.

Michigan and Indiana, two states that border Ohio, are at 70mph.

I forget what PA is at, but given their drivers I see in Ohio, I assume that it is 50mph and driving in the center or right lanes is discouraged there. Or maybe they just develop those habits because PA puts a tollbooth in the middle of the highway about every 3/4 mile.

I also forget what KY is at, I just remember driving 65 in the Durango, towing a car, and getting blown past up hills by guys with Powerstrokes and huge trailers. Must be nice to have that kind of power.

Yeah, just about every state that borders Ohio allows 70mph, although PA does not. Just like every state we border allows some sort of gambling, but that's for another thread.
