Sure looks like fun! I could see us having lunch break at Carlisle sitting next to this wagon listening
to those polkas and waltzes. I can only think this must be a 4 speed. Reasonable mpg, et's hmmm?

This would be a lot more fun than the Jeep. Go for it.

It turns out that it is an 83 Pontiac Bonneville wagon in Malibu clothing built in Ohio of all places! And it is an automatic.

Here are a few more pictures:

I love that Pontiac dash a whole lot better than the Malibu's. How many tail pipes?

Another view of the dash.

Looks like duals...

It has 114K on the clock. It lives about 2.5 hours from here. Randi and I are thinking about taking a ride to New Bern on Wednesday to see it.

I'm a big fan of two-tone paint and I think that one looks pretty nice. Go for it!

The big thing that concerns me is the fact that this car spent most of it's life in Illinois and Ohio (according to CarFax). I don't feel comfortable in my ability to detect body work or repairs under a good looking paint job.

Look at the frame. These vehicles were vulnerable behind the rear wheel. If there is no significant scale on the frame, then the sheet metal is probably in fairly good shape. You could also look in the spare well for rust. Usually you can get a good look at what the car was before the paint by looking in there.

Where you live it's not going to rust out very fast, and starting at $3500, you could afford a repair or two. How long has the paint been on it?

Maybe you could convince Fred32v to come down and look at it.

When you and Randi go look at it, a quick look underneath at the floor boards, brake lines and fuel lines
will tell you all you need to know. We'll check back Wednesday to see what you decided.
Also, obviously he will take less than that $3500, I'd try $3000. Not many buyers are interested in that kind of car.
All he can say is no or "Do da deal".

Hey Fred. Do you think that Gardner 350 Chevy engine will fit in this car?
If I win it and if I get this wagon, will you bring it down and help me install it.

It's a simple bolt in! That would be an even sweeter ride with 400hp.
I'm there. Raleigh, here I come!

Wagons Hoooo...

I like it. I'm not a big two tone fan. But, that's just me.
I like the dash too.
I understand wagons hook really good at the tack!
Heck, a big block will bolt right in!

Rust!!!

Post by wxo »

One word about sums it up: RUST.

Rust bubbles under the paint on the wheel well lips. Rust bubbles on the door frames. Paint bubble on the roof. I'll bet this is just the tip of the rust iceberg.

Otherwise it was an honest car. The rust was a deal breaker.

Fred, you can cancel your trip to Raleigh.

Oh well! Bubbles are bad. You'll just have to find something else.
Remember, the hunts half the fun.
