Dang, has it really been that long since I worked on this thing??
I decided to try tackling the headlights today. I watched the ChrisFix video on youtube, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sPj1kJm4AnU
I had already purchased a kit from Amazon with the brass gear and nylon bushings. I started with the drivers side. I got everything taken apart pretty easily. You need a couple T30 torx, a 10mm and a 1/4". When I got everything apart and removed the cover, I was surprised at how clean it was. The gear itself was fine. But the nylon bushings were all crumbled.
I got it put back together without too much drama -- I thought "why did I wait this long to try this??" But, when I did my test, I get nothing. The light turns on, but no action from the motor. The un-touched passenger side one half-flips. I know there is a 2-wire connector for it, and its connected. I didnt try anything before I took it apart, so I dont remember how well it worked/didnt work. More to come..

the first thing I would do is find the ground wire connection and clean it. there is some notoriety with bad grounds on C4s
you can also turn it by hand to raise the light to make sure nothing in the mechanism is bound up

A little progress tonight. I applied 12v directly to the headlight motor, and it works. And it moves exactly like it should.
So I guess there is a headlight actuator relay thing mounted right in front of the left front wheel. It sends the power to both sides individually. Might have to replace that.
I removed the passenger side headlight assembly and got the gear replaced in there too. Like the drivers side, the gear was good, but the bushings were ground to dust. However, the rollpin split in pieces and I dont know if I have another one. But I'm on the re-assembly phase, so I should have working headlights very soon.
