CCiS VIR race report

Started P24 of 43 cars, ended P28. Got roughed up the first few laps, lost another 5 seconds slowing to avoid a wreck on lap 15. Ended up 93 seconds behind the leaders, and if you subtract out the 20 seconds or so lost due to incidents I would have been on par with other races I've done this season.

Up next race 2 XSLR season 10: ARCA cars at Las Vegas Motor Speedway on 9/14 at about 8:10 PM

Race 1 I qualified P3 of 14 and hung with the lead pack til about lap 20 where they were two wide exiting T4 and I didn't judge exit speed right and tagged the outside wall - this messed up toe in and I was about 1 second a lap slower after that. Race ran green for all 85 laps and I was not able to recover. Ended up P11. I may have been a bit tired from being at Mid Ohio all weekend for the ChampCar endurance race.

XSLR Season 10 race 2 report - LVMS:

I knew that full speed fuel consumption and staying green would require 2 stops. So I started saving right at the start. All was going to plan until lap 74 when the guy to my right bounced off the wall in the tri oval and ran into me. Sadly this did not bring out a yellow and I finished two laps down. These paved ovals are not my strong suit so it was quite disappointing that a solid podium chance was wrecked by someone being careless. I'm a bit cursed on these tracks as this was literally the only car contact that caused damage the whole race.

CCiS GR86 at Brands Hatch race report:

Tried pitting coming to green and for the first time I got a 40 second hold for entering closed pits. Then I had contact with a wall and had to come in for a fast repair about 2/3 into the race. This turned a P15 start into P21 finish. Had some really good racing in the last 15 minutes or so - traded positions with a guy several times in the final laps. He passed me on second last lap but then made a small mistake on the last lap and I retook the spot.

XSLR ARCA at Bristol race report:

Once again I qualified near the front in P3. I expected this race to be about tire saving. Running flat out is harrowing as you have to carry a lot of speed on exit of T2 and T4 which ends up in wall contact if not done right. However with the tire saving that was a lot less risky so the drive was good. With 12 cars in the field and a 1/2 mile, there was bound to be a bit more traffic than normal, and with the tire drop off anyone coming out of the pits on fresh tires will be faster than you which also added to the traffic. I started in tire saving mode right away. After a short time I found myself following Jake the points leader and master of ovals, while a few guys ran up ahead. I figured I was doing exactly the right thing, however about 1/4-1/3 the way in Jake just started going a little faster while my tires were telling me I had to go a bit slower. A few guys that were showing more pace in race had issues and I was able to finish P4, for my first good finish of the season, and first good finish of the last two seasons on paved ovals.

We ran 165 laps at Bristol caution free. I ended up 4 laps down but only about 5 seconds behind the leader so really about 50 seconds back, which is not too bad.
