So a chromed steel shifter ball would be out of the question? I learned that lesson on my '76 Corvette L82. It had a black chromed shift ball and on some hot days I couldn't touch it.

Here's the second of my test cases:

In case I forget the shift pattern, there's one on the lid of the ash tray when it's closed. I keep the lid open to befuddle any potential thieves. 8)

This re-purposed cue ball is the clear winner of my shift-off. I drove to the urologist this morning so I was able to assess the new shift ball. It passed with flying colors. The ball shape allows natural hand and finger placement allowing one and two finger shifts when the situation warrants. I can feel the each gear snicking into position. I believe the weight of the cue ball provides a kind of balance to the shift lever. The fun level of driving Silvia has been raised up a notch.

I missed the shifter conversation. My 90Vette has a short-throw shifter with a large-ish ball shifter. Sometimes I'm not sure if I like the short-throw, or maybe because my trans can be a little finicky, esp going into 3rd. Your shift handle looks a lot taller than mine.
