Dirt Drags Lake Count Fair 7-26-24

I'll be there with the Raptor only. Thought about racing the Ranger with snow tires on it, but not the same as racing the Vette, so I'll just run more classes with the quad.

The weather was basically perfect for July for being outside all night. I made four time runs in the S10 (hard to remember). This was while the track was still pretty fresh. A 4.43, 4.46, 4.42 and 4.53. This was pretty encouraging as I would be able to run right on the index of the 4.5 class. Unfortunately the track started to go away and by the time I got to eliminations it was definitely slower. In the 4.5 class I got to the semi-finals but my lack of 4wd did me in. I did get to race Andy and although he cut a great light, he couldn't quite get to the number and that was one of my best passes on the sloppy track at 4.58 to his 4.89. He cut an .060 to my .268 with a MOV at .103. It was pretty close.
In the 2wd class, there was only one other competitor unfortunately as this is where I usually make my money at the other races when there's 6-7 entries. I won this one without working too hard (see Andy's video).

On the quad I entered into three different classes. My best outcome was the 2nd place in the 450 and up Trail class. I made it to the Semi's in the 4.0 index, and just got beat about halfway through the field in the 450 and up Knobbie class. Probable top five or six there, but that's the biggest class I was in. The best run of the night was in time trials at 4.29 which is a tenth and a half quicker than my previous best. This is basically the new exhaust and jetting. I had a couple 4.3x runs but most of my runs were in the 40's and some 50's as the track went away. I need to learn to launch hard when the wheels are going to spin anyway.

Dad got to make some time runs with Andy and we had him signed up for the 4.5 index and also V6 4wd class. Sadly there were no other competitors for the V6 class, so he won by default and got his money back. He got a bad draw in the first round and lost to Mikey Reed, a solid racer at Thompson and his truck was by chance running right on the index in the low 4.5s. His second elimination was against Andy, and I know Andy won but don't have the specifics. I know he had a great time and will probably make more passes in the dirt before the year is over.

It cost $50 to enter five classes and I won $50. So a good night!

This is so much fun. I wish there was a local track or series, but it seems that most of the regular racing is done much further south in the KY area. Maybe one day I'll get the Vette together and go down there to run with the big boys.
