Summit Midwest Drags @ 42, 6-9-2022
June 6-10 is the Summit Racing Midwest Drags drag-n-drive event this year. Pretty much the same thing as Hot Rod Drag Week. They are gonna be at 42 on Thursday next week. I'm going to go down and check it out. Scope for last minute ideas, maybe just see how it works. I might even burn a vacation day for it.

Seeing as racing starts at 8 AM (clearly a MORNING PERSON set up this schedule) what time you planning to be there?

I'm NOT a morning person, in general. To go to the race track, I'll always make an exception.
I was originally planning on being there by 9am. I'm not sure I'm prepared to leave my house at 6:30am to be there at 7:30am for spectator gates opening. So, I guess I'll be there no later than 9am, unless you make a good case for being there earlier.

All these cars had to drive there - it was like 7 hrs drive from the last dragstrip. The El Camino ran 6.99 at 208 mph and the 4WD was in the 10’s

It was a great day to be at the dragstrip. Sun was shining, but it was a little on the cool side -- perfect weather for racing. Not a ton of cars, maybe 100?
When you have reliability issues and a sense of humor... (the bottom one is a Gear Vendors overdrive unit) Same car, with his trailer. Twin turbo Gen2 HEMI -- one of the first things I noticed were the dual fuel-rails. Usually a smaller injector for driving and larger injectors in the 2nd rail for max power. A different kind of two-tone.. Check out his street tires... you can see his slicks on the trailer This guy's truck took a HARD right at the launch, not sure if went 60 feet before turning almost 90* and bonking the wall-- what a shame, cuz it was *mint*... twin turbo BB Mopar. Big dog of the event, Cleetus McFarland (youtube famous) with a twin-turbo 632 big block chevy. We saw a 7.01 & 6.99 @ 208!! I shot this from super far away, so poor quality

The trailers...
Eddie Van Trailin
This guy's trailer was pretty compact and pretty well thought out. You can see the mounts on the side where his slicks go during the driving stints. We talked with him for quite a while. A former SuperGas racer from Oklahoma who has been to a lot of tracks in the country, called Norwalk the best (by far) and Dragway 42 as 2nd best he's been too. Being pulled by a real nice looking 80s Cutlass, driven by a 70-something year old guy with his 70-something buddy. Turbo LS running a 10.0 index class. (and running Megasquirt!) Maybe Andy got a pic of the car, somehow I didn't.
And the opposite end of the spectrum, a U-haul trailer. One racer told us he did that his 1st year and would never do it again. Too much weight.

Some video from the day we were there. It missed a lot, but there are a couple things worth noting. In the last two minutes you see Dave and I chatting with the Typhoon owner - supercharged V6 and she and her husband did a lot of work to get that truck back on the road. In the last 20 seconds of the video you see a pair of feet sticking out the window of the El Camino. We talked with that guy he was from Oklahoma. Dave noticed it had a bench seat - and the guy said he wanted a bench seat so he could lay down and rest on it - well here is video evidence he wasn't kidding lol.
