I have a path to a belt configuration. Had to buy some hardware to get it all attached. Pics are of the original configuration. What I will do is move the alternator to where the air pump is located, and run the tensioner backward. Plan B could be tensioner where air pump was. Tensioner on order will have tonight. All the bolts are standard except the bolt holding the tensioner appears metric.

Going to make brackets and aluminum shims. I like using studs makes it easier to assemble. Below you can see the string on the path for the belt.

As I was browsing through my old Chevy performance books I found that wire mesh windage trays are actually a lot better than traditional windage trays

My path has morphed a little. At first my thought was to get this thing running and do some basic tests. I have decided the basic tests should include some important data gathering and testing.
I am interested in data on oil temps for engine and trans. To obtain this I will be adding temp gauges to both.
I am also interested in oil management in the pan. The car has a factory windage tray but I am going to experiment with making one from perforated sheet.
In the meantime I degreased the engine bay, and have new pressure line for power steering. These hoses are 30 years old! I also intend to replace the rubber hose in the fuel line - there is a 1 foot long section. I was not able to locate direct replacements so I am going with Russell braided hoses, AN fittings and adapters to flare line. I will cut the factory lines and flare them. I also prepped the lower intake. This is not just a cleaning. I amde EGR port blocking plates, but inside the intake there is a passage from the EGR ports to the intake runners which I did not like. To address this I cut those ports off the intake so Kurt could access the holes and weld them shut. In all 27 ounces off the bottom of the intake.
While I had the hose out I flushed the radiator which brought out a lot of rusty water and some rust chunks.
I have learned much about oil and oil management in the past week so I hope to put that to good use.
I also learned that the factory oil cooler is really a heat exchanger - it bring radiator fluid to the oil and transfers the oil heat to the radiator heat. The car did not come with one so it took me a while to really decipher the diagrams I was seeing online.
I have an idea that I would like to drive this car in October through street tests,then possibly drag strip and autocross - though I am not quite sure yet if I will make it.

If you buy a non running you must assume this is what is in the gas tank. There were several gallons of rust, water and gas in the bottom of the tank. Tank is plastic so it will clean up.
Also, surviving the prior owner is the dash pad which has no cracks and can be had for $75 if anyone is actually restoring a C4
Apparently my appeal to ChampCar to lower the point value is being considered that should help

Bypassing the VATS seems always depending on resistors, resistors do fail.

I am up for it i have my doubts the wire colors will be the same. We don’t need this to work forever as this will likely get a Megasquirt.

I could use a set of cheap center bolt valve covers to cut open and use for adjusting lifters. Anyone have a line on a set?

You really don't need to do it that way. What's been working good for me is jiggling the pushrod Up & Down, NOT twisting it. Jiggle it up and down until you can't feel it move anymore, that's 0-lash. Add 1/2-3/4 turn.

I am not sure the pictures do justice of how much hand fabrication was needed to make this tray.
