Under Hood Work Light

WXO and I bought 40" LED shop lights from Costco. I'm replacing florescent shop lights as they go bad. Very bright and very white. Supposed to last for 45 years. Today I rigged one as an under-hood work light and it's looking good!

Bent some wire hooks to hang it from holes in the back of the hood frame. No more fumbling around in the dark under the hood. Working on the distributor will be much better.

I bought a couple of those fluorescent-replaced LED shop lite bulbs. They really are bright and white. I've converted much of my indoor lighting to LED. I have some dead tubes in the ceiling of tiresmoke central, but they're way up there. I'm gonna need a step ladder in the bed of my truck to get to them. Waiting for a few more to go out.

Hanging a fixture like that under the hood looks.... (wait for it)....

That shop light may work well under the car as well. I'll try it when I get around to changing my tranny fluid.

Bet it will. Nice thing is the light source is 40" long so it lights a lot of area.

I was thinking of gluing a couple of soft feet of some sort on the reflector to keep it up off the floor when using it under the car.

Good idea. Maybe something like this http://www.ebay.com/itm/like/401116051423 on shorter dowels screwed to the light would provide nice cushions for the light. Not sure how shock resistant the shop lights are.
