206 Peugeot from Cuba
Hello everybody!
I feel very excited to be here sharing my experiences with my Peugeot 206. I am a close friend of Mr. wxo and his brother!!!
The car belongs to my Enterprise in Cuba. It was fuel injected but recently I fitted a 205 naturally aspirated head with a small Solex carb.
Now it is running again, but unfortunatelly the idle is not the best.
I will be posting any advantages I have in this direction.

Yes, you have called it the right way: ADVENTURES
When you try to keep alive and engine everything turns into a thrilll.
I was happily riding everyday my 1958 Norton motorcycle. So Matias my son came into my life! Fortunatelly I got this opportunity from my job. If I'll make reborn a died Peugeot I could give my family a safer ride, at least for some months. So I fitted the head and just hearing the engine roaring was a big exitment.
As the time goes by you want to make it goes better and better. I am already at this point!

Actually I am not looking forward to make the Peougeot to produce smoke on tires!!! More than this I would be happy to make it work like an old 6 inline 1952 Chevrolet...jajajaj (just kidding)
Well after fitting the naturally aspirated head I presented 3 main problems.
- The engine tries to keep working after closing the ignition key with heavy preignition (I just can solve it via a tricky 3rd gear and clutch handling)
- Difficulty at morning starting (of course I don't have any carburator control from the inside of the car)
- Uneven Idle (the engine eight strokes more than four stroking)
So....
I have pics like wxo suggest, and I will post them...but, actually they don't bring too much "juice" as you guys can't feel the engine.
I have a sound record. I will try to upload it so you can hear it.
I would be please if I can hear your thoughts about that.

So know that you have some material, I will try to focues on poor idle.
I did dismantle and clean up every tiny little peace of the carb so it is very clean.
I tried it without air filter and with it.
I also disconnect the electric fuel pump on the gas tank because this head has a mecanical pump.
Tried to tune the carb via the air mixture screw.
The only thing that make it works....better is using the idle jet, that must be properly tighten, giving is a very very small turn anticlock wise the engine at idle goes better
After this I put some nail paint to prevent is loosen from this possition.
I would use loctite but, in Cuba the is just little possibities with products and tools.
I also tried to spray some water to try to see any kind of vacumm problem but it seems to be OK.
Do you have advices for me to follow on this topic?

Yass, I would like to know if your spark timing is correct for that car.
How do you measure and adjust the timing?
Do you have a strobe timing light?

Unfortunately after setting a 205 head on a 206 model things changed. Things that goes beyond my control.
For example:
Is the combustion chamber the same? More or less compression?
Is the valve timming the same? The intake has been advanced or retarded?
Is the head of the piston in the 206 built to receive the gas in the way the carb gives it?
As I don't have answers for those questions. So I think that going exact over a correct timing is not that important.
I release the timming nuts and with the engine running set the best timming for.
- idle running
- prevent detonation while running
After giving a ride, I stopped by and retarded if it detonates too much, then advance a bit.....and that's how the timming is fitted.
So, straight to your questions.
I set the timming by trial-error procedure.
And no, I don't have a strobe light tool.

Is there any chance the timing is off by one gear or cog? Why the change from injection to a carburetor?
