1964 Malibu SS Convertible

Another week and a little more progress. No windshield yet,
but the wiper motor and arms have been installed.
The new dash gauge panel has been inserted into the dashboard.

Saturday was lost attending a swap meet.

Front inner fenders were installed this week after the new rubber
mud guards were attached with the original staples.

Now there is a place for the steering wheel.
Can the motor and transmission be far behind?

The 220HP 283 Cu. In. engine has been installed.

Also the Powerglide is back there.

Dead lines are gone, but there is progress being made.
More accessaries on the engine, the original refabed shifter,
the center console is on the way and a million other little things.

Thought it looked good outside.

The plan now is to work from the front to the back. All the effort
is focused on the front of the Malibu. The radiator has been installed
with the tranny lines. Hoses are on the way. The front wiring harness
connects the lights. The battery box is in place, the battery is on its' way.


The new grille looks great, as does the hood moulding and letters. There sure are a lot of parts in a car!

Continuing the front-to-back project plan, the Front Bumper has been
mounted, the voltage regulator and horns have taken their
place under the hood and the new heater hoses have been installed.

Could be the Rear Bumper will be on by Memorial Day, just in time for Summer 2007.

Except for the parking light lenses, the front end appears complete. The winshield has been installed.
Most of the body side and wheel well mouldings are on.

More of the external emblems are being added. Once the new exhaust arrives and is installed,
we'll be able to see the motor running in the car.

Steady progress. The windows are in and working. Mouldings are being polished and added.
The radio's speaker is in with the radio soon to follow.

The dashboard is almost complete, needing only the ignition switch. Steering wheel is absolutely spectacular.

Working to the rear, the rear bumper is ready to go on. Exhaust system has arrived.

With the new ignition switch installed and the new exhaust system in place the SS 283 v8 came to life. Sounds great!

The front parking lights have been installed along with the radio's antenna. Only one tail pipe is pictured
but like all power pack motors, this car has two of them.

With the new rear bumper in place, only a few trim pieces are needed to complete the exterior.
The convertible top frame has been readied for installation.

This SS will be taking a trip to the Top and Upholstry shop very soon.
The seats, door panels, and side panels are already there.

Last week the home for the SS was empty, today the SS bay was full. With the cover off, this car is sensational.
The pictures give you some idea of just how sweet this ride is.


The top and interior are absolutely stunning. The pictures simply don't do this 1964 SS justice.

The tires and wheels are coming.

Notice the new B. F. Goodrich (Coker) white sidewall tires. Strange size.
The re-plated deck lid panel has arrived and been installed. Looks great.

The wheel covers will be available shortly.

Is this project stalled?

The car is complete and is absolutely beautiful. It remains only to sell it.
I feel offers over $40,000 (price of a new Impala SS) would be considered.
A person could spend more and get less. This is a great car for shows or cruising.
It's pretty hard to find NEW 1964 Chevelle Malibu SS convertibles.
This one was done right.
