Nothing major happening with the S-10. With the weather as nice as it was here last week, I did commute from Tuesday to Friday with it last week, and did a little cruising yesterday with it. I'm booked in with Hutter's for a retune on the 31st to try to fix the 2000 rpm hesitation and hopefully get my 2mph and .15 back at the dragstrip. I've already changed all the plugs out (no small feat) and inspected all the wires where I did find one that had a slightly melted boot which has been replaced with no major impact in the positive direction. I also just dumped some fuel injection cleaner in it last night which couldn't hurt. Since I don't know much of the history of this motor, I'm not ruling out a clogged injector.

For my birthday I got a battery relocation kit for the S-10. With plans for it to eventually become faster, I figure this could only help the traction issue. Plus it will help it handle better too. Win, win.

One picture shows about where it should go once installed. I like it because it's molded in rough black plastic and looks a lot like the bedliner.

So as noted in our TRP post, I got the S-10 back from Hutter's last week with a new and improved tune which netted me my 11.94 (I just like to see it in print). But when I picked the truck up, I didn't get any time to talk to Trevor about it, and I forgot to have them print out a dyno sheet. So I stopped by today after work and grabbed it. Looks like 345 HP and 311 ft lbs with a very flat torque curve. Not that any of that means much, but when people ask, now I can talk like I know what's up.

Not too much happening with the S-10 right now. I did an oil change, replaced the diff fluid, and greased it all up so I should be good to go for most of the season. Before Carlisle I'm probably going to change the oil pan and filter if it warms up. If not, it's going like it is. After Carlisle I'll work on moving the battery into the bed. I took it out today just to top off the tank and fill all my cans with free Giant Eagle gas as I was going to lose some of the free money if I didn't use it up soon. That's the only dilemma with having a small car that gets good mileage, it's harder to use up 30 gallons.

BTW, it's still sounds great and runs sweet.

Yesterday the S-10 got it's new transmission pan from Derale and six quarts of synthetic trans fluid. I've used these on a couple other cars and figure the extra fluid and cooling opportunity can't hurt. It claims to hold 2qts and 4oz more than stock, but mine already had a deep factory pan on it so it was more like a quart and a half more. I already have a trans cooler up front, but cooler is always better. This morning I did a nice Sunday morning cruise for about an hour and a half. All seemed well.

What's awesome about that is today I was searching for superchargers at work. So I was dreaming a little too! Magnuson, Edelbrock, and even some rear mounted turbos.

I did another oil change tonight. When I recorded it, I realized that I'm 300 miles away from having 10k miles on this engine swap. So far, I couldn't be happier. I got it running in October of '16, so it hasn't even been two years yet. I guess I'm getting my money's worth out of it

If you look back a few pages, you'll see I bought a pair of used cylinder heads. A couple weeks ago I sent them to Hutters to get a CNC port job done on them. Early this week Trevor calls and tells me the CNC shop blew through the exhaust port and into one of the water jackets. He asked me to buy another one or pair and he would reimburse me as it was clearly their fault.
I found a set quickly on eBay for $150 shipped and they are being sent directly to Hutters next week. More to come.

I've known the Hutter boys since high school and anyone I know who's dealt with them (including myself) has been satisfied with their integrity. They're not the cheapest around, but in most cases you get what you pay for. My spending with them is small-time compared to most but that doesn't seem to change how they treat me or anyone else. That's probably why they're ALWAYS backed up with work, even in the middle of winter.
