Not much time to discuss, but 32V and I went down and picked this up tonight. No surprises here except that I bought a four door hatchback by a German company. Hey, why not? Then, since we were close, we stopped by Summit on the way back to pick up a truck bed mat that will eventually be custom cut to fit the back of the Golf. Oh, I lied to 32V and told him it had steel wheels and caps, but upon further inspection upon arrival, these are 15" aluminums. I guess I still have a lot to learn about this one.

More to come...

Now you can star in it.

I thought those were aluminum wheels in the pictures, but I, too, kept telling myself that they must have just been some nice covers on steel. I swear the base was always 15" steel. Those would be good wheels for some winter tires, if you find you need something a little more aggressive for summer. I think you made a good choice. I love that platform and that engine. Fun and practical.

From what I can see, once they did away with the 2-door versions in '16, all the base Golfs weren't very basic anymore. Hopefully when I get to looking through the info for this car, I'll find the window sticker to see what actually was an option and what was standard. Everything I've read so far is that this is the base car with an auto trans, but Jettas do come in cheaper versions.

"It's not a car, It's a Volkswagen."

I can't wait to jump this thing!

Takes "Do the deal" to a whole new level.
It took longer to drive to the dealer than to test drive and finish the paper work.
Fun evening, what a deal, the internet is amazing, bod-a-bing, the deal was done.

Shed never a tear for the RAM that was left behind, it did its' job.

The Golf has amazing stuff for a Base model, can't wait to see were this goes.
(It went to Summit before it went home. Hmm.)

That's interesting info. I read a little about them earlier. Realistically, I probably will just put 89 octane in it and drive it. Maybe a K&N (yeah K&N) drop in filter after the first oil change. I like driving it so far, it has plenty of passing power, but it feels like my Regal GS. Reasonable quick, but not that exciting. And that's OK. It is fun when the road turns, and it stops like crazy, but I bought it to be a more efficient appliance, not to go fast. I have one of those already, and if I've learned anything about making a car last, it's to leave it basically stock. Ask Tiresmoker about that with his Cobalt.

This morning I filled up for the first time. I was able to get about 360 miles out of the dealer's gas and filled 11.3 gallons in a 12.3 gallon tank. I topped it off pretty well with 89 octane. Now we'll be able to get some real MPG numbers out of this tank. I'm suspecting with mixed winter-ish driving to be somewhere around 36mpg.
Today, if it warms up past 33 degrees (still holding at 29 here) I plan to wash and wax it, and try to learn some things about it's features.

Today was a complete wax job, including inside all doors, under the bonnet and boot also, and all the windows got rain-ex. I took the Summit brand truck mat we bought on the way home from purchasing the car and cut it all up to fit the rear parts of the car too. It looks way better now than it did when I got it, and now it's a little more protected from nasty crap that I'll be hauling. Plus the rubber mat will help keep stuff from sliding around a bit more.

If you drive the SRT10, I'm driving the S10. If you drive the Volt, I'll drive the Golf. That way we can drag...everywhere we go.

So real numbers after my first real fill up is 31mpg. This included multiple days at work with warm up time before leaving. I'll take it. I drove in some snow and slop this week too. Without snow tires it goes and stops reasonably well, and at least is predictable. Hopefully by next winter I'll have real snows and it should go really well then.
