Chevelle paint & body
Sad day today -- while getting gas at Sunoco today, dude clipped the front end of my Chevelle trying to get around it. Damage isn't terrible, but the left front fender and headlights are damaged. 27 years of ownership and the worst I ever did was scratch some paint. My 2017 season is essentially over since I'm not going to drive it around this way. Since having the other body work done the past couple years, I've been wanting to get it painted anyway. Time to git 'r done.
I'll post pics when I get home from work.

Bummer. Just a big PITA. Those parts are common that could be fixed in a month.

Dave,
Are you going to keep it the same color?? Have you thought about who will paint it? Is there
any brainstorming going on here about paint?

Re: Chevelle paint & body
IT HAS BEGUN!!!
I dropped the Chevelle off with Gary at Cruisin Dreams to finally get my car painted!! He was recommended to me by Kevin S. and Paul has seen his work too. I'm confident it's gonna look killer when it's all done. He told me 4 weeks, which is fantastic! But even if it takes twice that, I'm good. End result is what matters most, not some artificial timeline.
I'm keeping it the same color, and going to add a Cowl Induction hood and white SS stripes. He has a guy that can probably straighten/rechrome my rear bumper. (been dented since the day I bought it). All new weatherstripping and window felts too. It should be super nice when it's done.
I'm stoked!!

Re: Chevelle paint & body
So I went down to the shop today. The main purpose was to drop off some parts, but I also got to see my car partially stripped. All the emblems are off, door handles, bumpers, rear window has been removed, some of the interior has been removed, and he showed me a minor area in the passenger rear that will need some straightening. Im guessing this car might've had a minor accident in the right rear, since my bumper is also dented in on that same side.
The good news is that the bottom channel of my rear window is is decent shape. I could see a little surface rust poking out from under the trim, so it was one of the unknowns going into this adventure.
Speaking of bumpers, the plan was to have his bumper guy see if he could straighten/re-chrome my bumpers. Except his bumper guy hasn't been around. We'll see what happens there.
But as mentioned, I dropped off some parts:
Cowl Induction Hood w/ flapper door, stock hood pin kit, stencil kit
Grill kit with all the trim --grill to be painted black
New headlight bezels
All new weatherstripping for doors/trunk
Door pins/bushings
Window felts
We agreed that I'll also pick up new door handles and driver's side mirror (pass side optional) because my current pieces would look crummy against new paint. I also need to get Cowl Induction emblems, the rear hood trim, and maybe chrome drip moldings. I need to go look at pictures for that. The passenger front wheel opening trim is dented/dinged. Bumper-guy might be able to fix it, if he shows up. Gonna see if neighbor-Jerry has one.

Re: Chevelle paint & body
A few more pics. I delivered the new bumpers and hood hinges. The cowl induction hood is on, car is fully primered. Door/hood/trunk alignment all looks great. He is expecting to put paint on this week! And I did NOT come home with a list of more parts to order, so that's good. I did bring my old hood and bumpers home, so need to figure out what I'm going to do with those.

Re: Chevelle paint & body
Yeah, but mainly because the hood comes with the holes already in it. If those holes weren't there, I certainly would not have added them.

Re: Chevelle paint & body
I went through a bunch of my pictures tonight and put together an album, going back to when I first took the carpet out of the interior to repair the floorboards. There's a few in there of other cars that I took for trim references.

Re: Chevelle paint & body
These pics remind me of when we used to paint our car in the garage. We could NEVER
wait until the paint was dry, and always ripped off the paper when the paint was wet.
It was like Christmas! It's so awesome to see it in one color! You're going to love this
upgrade!
