TRP 11-14-2020

Post by Basement Paul »

Looks like we've got a good amount of Tire Smokers headed to TRP this Saturday. 32V in the Firebird, GM Johnny in the 442, Tony in his Chevelle, Dave in his Chevelle, and I'll be looking for the 11.5 in the S10.

Forecast is for low ETs.

Great Saturday November 14th at TRP. Weather was amazing for November. 30’s & 40’s
Not the heavy crowd that we had last week.

The TrackBird made 6 passes.
First Pass ---– 0.1880 reaction 2.3494 60 ft. 18.4264 @ 71.45, driver 32V – poor launch etc.
Second Pass – 0.5876 reaction 2.3350 60 ft. 16.2896 @ 84.10, driver 32V - better
Third pass --– 0.3737 reaction 2.1546 60 ft. 15.7223 @ 86.67, driver 32V – 15’s, I’m Happy!
Fourth pass – 0.2870 reaction 2.1492 60 ft. 15.0436 @ 89.25, driver BP --– best et to date
Fifth pass –-- 0.1830 reaction 2.1661 60 ft. 15.0522 @ 91.37, driver BP –-- best mph to date
Sixth pass --– 0.2025 reaction 2.0990 60 ft. 15.0452 @ 88.90, driver BP --- 2nd best 60 ft.

TireSmoke, BP, GMJohnny, and Tony with his 69_Chevelle were there,
I think everyone improved their numbers. They’ll each have a story.

GMJohnny and I left early, but I think BP and ‘Smoke stayed for the Gamblers.

It’s the hottest at TRP when it’s the coldest, always great fun!

This is me vs. Tony's car, driven by Paul.
12.32 @ 107.9 vs 11.99 @ 111.7

My best for the day was 12.30 @ 107.9 with a 1.63 60ft.

It was a great day to be out there, cool but not cold, no real wind, and i thought the track was decent. No huge numbers for me, just 6 satisfying passes in mid November!

Paul stayed for gamblers, Tony and I did not.

Today was cool for me. I got to drive three different cars at the track for multiple passes. In the S10 I made five passes, in the TrackBird I got three, and in Tony's Chevelle I got three (plus one throwaway). I was able to lower my best in the S10 to an 11.58 with my best 60' of 1.70. The TrackBird I was able to get a few hundreths faster than last week, but you can see from the same ET's across the board, that there's nothing really left to get it into the 14's. Maybe some lighter wheels would do it, but that's no real important. Maybe I should have taken Fred's advice and taken the T-Tops out!

In Tony's car I was able to duplicate our best of 11.99, but that was still with some wheelspin and peddling issues. I believe that I was overheating the Nitto tires (thinking it had Mickeys) and making them greasy. Next week will be a little more air pressure and noticeably less burnout. If I could get the same 1.6x 60' times we had last year, it would be in the 11.80s somewhere.

I got into the gamblers race with only 5 cars in it I was already in the 1/4 finals. I won the first round with an 11.70 on a .60 dial. I treed my opposition significantly and he broke out by .4. He was dialed 16.2 and ran a 15.88.

Next round I dialed a .66. With three cars left, I pulled cards for the bye and lost which got me racing Mike in his F-150. He was dialed 12.88 to my 11.66. I plain old lost this on the tree. He pulled a .0241 to my .0925. We both ran one off our number, but I believe based on his MPH he whacked the brakes at the stripe as he cut about 4mph off his speed. If I could have been a little better on the tree, he would have broke out.

Either way, I had a blast today. I didn't get to hang out with the group quite as much with all the driving, but I can talk to you guys all Winter...

Officially the S10 is done racing for the season as I have nothing more to prove IMO. I'm super happy with the performance, and hope to be able to duplicate these numbers in normal conditions next year, and not on 40 degree days with my little tires on.

I do plan to go out next week and try to get the Golf in the 14's, and Tony's Chevelle in the 80's.

Tons of FUN!

We cant forget the debut of the Speece Machine Blazer running 14.95 @ 88 on those huge 35s before a fuel leak would send him home early.

I can't say the weather was perfect for the 442, but it was pretty close. I started my day at 7:30
prepping the car for the track. I thought I was pretty much buttoned up for winter, but no, not when
there's frost on the ground at home on a dry day that the track is open. I was able to make 5 runs
before I waved the flag. 13.68 @ 103.3 was a good start. 13.62 @ 103.59 was better. 13.60 @ 102.76
got me thinking I could get my best. My best run to date came the next run 13.55 @ 102.77. ( I had
Dave's GoPro in the car for this pass. If Dave can post it, that'd be cool! ) Then I tried one more
which got me the satisfaction of being on the other side of 13.50. I put down a 13.47 @ 102.77. I spent
some time trying to get the launch better. With wheel hop a issue, I have to walk the car out of the hole.
I finally got the launch figured out on the last run. I watched my 60' times drop from 2.23 to 2.07 over the
span of 5 passes. I think there's a bit more there. If the weather is colder next week, I'll give it one more
shot in 2020 to see if I can better my 13.47, but if that doesn't happen, I'm happy!

I would have worn my skinny jeans if I knew BP was gonna take that picture.

All kidding aside, that was an extremely fun time at TRP. Good weather for ET & MPH....and a good group of people to hang out with it.

I really don't want Winter to arrive this year. The Chevelle and Boat are too much fun.

No problem, glad it came out good. It's always best when you're in the right lane with it on the side window like that, you can see the tree well, you can see the other lane. I've never tried it on the right window when I'm in the left lane.. mainly because I can't reach it to start it.
