I'm going out in the garage tonight to put the lightweight wheels on the S-10. Wed is supposed to have decent air and a racetime temperature in the lower 70's. That's about as good as it's going to get in July, so I may make an attempt at the 11's if the track will hold it. If I went 12.19 last time, and the truck is .2 quicker with these wheels on it, then an 11.99 might be feasible. Whether I get to the 11's or not, I do expect my best MPH ever.

Hope to see some 'Smokers there.

Your math is CPA approved!!

I have to wrap up an estate this week.....so I'm out, unfortunately. If I'm lucky, I/we may be fishing this weekend, though. :)

I took the Vette out tonight for it's debut at TRP. This thing runs good!! Racing a stick is tough, but really fun. I get well into 4th gear.

First pass hot off the street was 13.37 @ 105 !! My tach doesn't work, so I had to stage and shift totally by ear and feel. Next pass was a little better, 13.28 @ 106. My 3rd time run I had a crummy launch and slight shifting issue, 13.48 @ 105.

First round ended up being interesting -- I lost, running 13.51 on a 13.35 (bogged it), but my time slip said 110 MPH! I did shift it a little differently, but 4 mph?? So I had to stick around for a time run at the end! Time run was a 13.29 @ 106. So, not sure what happened there -- did I pull a Bob Glidden and drop the nose/airdam into the 2nd beams??  Whatever.. as Tony said in a txt "it was fun while it lasted!"

One of my runs was against a C7 Z06 -- he went 11.48 @ 127, stock tires I think.

Paul went rounds tonight, but I think he got beat in the Stock semi final.

another great night at TRP :-)

It's a great feeling when a vehicle purchase goes much better than anticipated rather than the other way around.

Yeah, an L98 Corvette within a cold day of the 12's is a badass C4 for sure. I got four time runs in and was able to muster a 12.14 and 113.75, which is my best MPH to date. This tells me that if we can get some cool air and lower the density altitude (it never got under about 2100ft last night with temp in the low 70's) I should be able to realistically get well into the 115mph zone and probably an 11.80.

I did get to the 4th round, which was the semi finals and lost a reasonably close race to a 392 Charger. I put up an .02 to his .04, and ran a 12.20 on a 12.12 dial fighting a little wheelspin off the line and a bunch on the 1-2 shift. He beat me by .05, so he was pretty close to his 12.32 dial. I was happy that all my lights were good last night, with the worst being a .08 against another Charger, but that was an easy run. My best was round 1 against the same Red Z06 Vette Dave raced in time runs. I cut a .01 and ran a 12.12 on a 12.11 dial and dropped 2mph hitting the brakes at the beams.

The weather was perfect for hanging out for sure. I saw several people I haven't seen in a long time, and watching Dave's new ride tear up the track was sweet too.

So Team Tiresmoke had a pretty good night at TRP. Paul showed up in his 500hp can of whoop ass, now with 4.10 gears, Fred showed up in his trusty new GMC, and I decided to bring the Blazer out for maybe a final outing. The three of us made up half of the truck class! 1st round went exactly as hoped for, none of us had to run each other, and we all won our first race!

We pull around it's only the three of us left! That was pretty cool! We drew cards for the bye run, and I pulled the Ace. So Paul and Fred would have to run each other to see who'd face me in the final. Paul managed to beat Fred setting up Paul and I for the final. I don't think I've ever run one of you guys for a final. I know I've run against Paul in middle rounds, and while I don't know the record, I feel like he's beat me a lot more than I beat him. So I knew I needed my A-game.

Final Round
TS --vs-- BP
14.10 Dial-In 12.12
.0598 RT .2012
14.17 ET 12.1202
94.49 MPH 114.76

Winner .0671

Not gonna lie, one of my most satisfying wins! I've seen Paul win a LOT of trophies over the years, so taking the Win there feels like a nice accomplishment. :-)

Rain cleared out enough so we could race. 75 to 80 degrees. Not good for real numbers but still a good time.
Winning the 1st round for me was particularly satisfying since the fellow mentioned he had beaten Paul before.
When all three of us came around, that pretty special!

Semi Final Round
32v --vs-- BP
15.05 Dial-in 12.12
.1658 RT .1112
15.12 ET 12.19
91.79 MPH 103.00

Lost by .0502

TRP is always great fun, but sometimes it is a little extra special.

The only bad thing (besides falling asleep in the finals) was how quickly they ran through the rounds. We didn't really have much time to dissect what was happening between rounds. It was almost like hot lapping. I'll admit I was paying more attention to Dave driving away than I was the Christmas tree. And really was laughing the whole time down the track wondering if I would actually catch the Blazer or not. It was a ton of fun both racing Dad and Dave. I'm glad in either case that none of us red-lit and was able to make a good race in both cases. I whacked the brakes pretty hard against Dad as noted in my MPH. I don't think I would have broke out, but better safe than losing.
Dave, now your Blazer should sell better. Just pile all those trophys on it for the pictures. It's a "consistent winner" at the track!

I'm also pretty happy that in that crappy air, I was able to get more than a MPH faster with the new gears. 114.76 is my new best. My 60' times when I figured out the launch, were 1.82/83 which is a tiny bit better than last time out, and my best last night was a 12.07. So compared to two weeks ago, I'm exactly 1mph faster and about .07 quicker, with 1000' elevation more as it never got under 3000' last night. I'm dying for one decent air day now.

That's a great picture! You can't even tell Dave is missing an Appendix. :D

Let me know if you'll be running trucks next Wednesday. I may be able to join you.
