Re: 1972 Maverick Sprint

Some of the advice I have received over the years makes so much sense. One is, get your car driveable as soon as possible, drive it, then you have a better idea of what you want. Second, is always buy the best Tool/Car/Part you can afford, don't always look for bargains, you will only buy a better o...

Re: 1972 Maverick Sprint

Is it just me, or do our projects never end? I am seriously thinking of putting a crate 383 motor and 5 or 6 speed in the Vette for next year. Lots of HP and low compression. Over the years my views have changed, I like resto mod more than originals. And i can "bag" the original 327/350 an...

Re: 1963 Corvette

One last thing. That front bolt is actually a combination of a rubber cushion and steel insert and washers. make sure you get it back in the same way it came out.

This is what all the pieces look like.

Re: 1963 Corvette

The piece you are describing at the front of the differential is the front mounting bracket. As you know the rear is held in basically with 3 bolts. Two bolts that hold the diff mounting crossmember in and the one bolt at the front of the bracket you describe. http://s1.postimage.org/k6zin44/Vette_D...

Re: 1972 Maverick Sprint

Jim, for what its worth, if you have the money there are MANY aftermarket FI setups available. And as Tiresmoker said they are all programmable and literally, infinitely, adjustable. You can go simple, or add sensors and have the computer become a complete ECM. But, carbs are fun, although no longer...

Re: 1963 Corvette

"Measure twice, cut once" or "measure twice, cut once...get a new piece and start over" . The latter is usually my style. I understand and commiserate with you on doing it twice. The hard work is done, the fun is almost here 8) . Looks like a real nice job. The Edelbrock carbs ar...

Re: 1966 Corvette project, will I finish before I die?

I am really sorry I missed you. You can't believe what went through my mind when I saw the note. I thought it HAS to be Jim. Otherwise how would anyone be so brazen as to leave a note on the steering wheel? unless they knew me. And how likely could it be that there would be another couple with your ...

Re: 1966 Corvette project, will I finish before I die?

No trophys at the car show. But a lot of fun driving the 25 miles to get there. And, just like a real car, it sat through a thunderstorm (I refused to run away like so many other "babied" show cars did). Then on the drive home I had more rain. Guess what it won't melt! Hekll, I would wash ...

Re: 1966 Corvette project, will I finish before I die?

I'm iin with the Hot Rods and modifieds. They say they have an "Awaards committee" with awards in "over 30 categories". I have no idea what the categories are. But if they have a category for Maroon 1966 Corvettes owned by a little bald Italian, then I'm a shoo-in  Actually,...

Re: 1966 Corvette project, will I finish before I die?

I have about 125 miles on it now. I have been driving less frequently than planned because the detonation was becoming a real concern. That seems to be solved now. I started hearing valve train noise too. So acouple of nights ago my buddy Pat Hennebery was over and we wemt through the valve train. N...

Re: Octane Boosters

Well here is the latest report on the dreaded detonation. It actually was getting worse as I drove the car more. I filled the tank with Mobil hi-test and bought Lucas octane boost. Interestingly, the bottle says to use one bottle per fillup, then it says "Not Street Legal". That sealed the...

Re: 1966 Corvette project, will I finish before I die?

No, nothing was broken. That is actually a reinforcement on the fiberglass floor and cacked on bondo dust all around it. The dust was caked on any place there was an indentation or excrusion. The stuff is really tough to get off. you have to go over it several times and it still sometime leaves a fi...

Re: 1966 Corvette project, will I finish before I die?

Today I finally got the chance to get the Vette up on the lift. Both things i was concerned with were in need of attention. I wanted to make sure the control arm bushings and the sway bar were torqued properly. And i wanted to see what havoc 3 years in a body shop wreaked on the undercarriage. First...
