Re: Chevelle 2009 projects

Any updates?
I DO remember that little event - of gauge watching - car in gear, 4000 rpm, hood up, and peering at a tiny fuel psi gauge....

Yieks, full throttle for 30ish miles....
I'm sure 'torque management' was working overtime.

Re: Thompson Escapades (warning - long winded)

I see the root issue was fuel delivery. Good find. But, I gota ask... how consistent is your fuel, meaning where do you get, how old is it, and after all, doesn't alcohol, absorb water - (moisture) ? Or, does it displace it.... I forget... As I was reading the first post, the FIRST thing in my mind,...

Re: Need More Traction

Well, I may need a Phase 2 motor, but first I need more traction. Came off a stop sign, made a right turn, got it straight and nailed it. Spun that right rear 205X70X14 all the way thru first gear. :D Fun, but not very effective. I strongly recommend a differential device of choice, to tie both whe...

Re: Old Thompson Trophies

Good point. Nope, no more need for speed. Still into the gas and oil stuff, though...
Now, it's hitting 14in of brown muck, engage the front differential lock, and throttle on... 8)

OK, 14in may be bit deep, and ya should lock the diff, -before hand, but ya'll get the idea.

Old Thompson Trophies

I was going thru the attic of the garage last evening, when I came across some old U-Haul packing blankets, all rolled up. A smile came across my face, as I knew what they contained. These hadn't been touched since the move, Painesville to Mentor, Sept 2000. I unrolled the bundles, to expose about a...

Re: 1972 Maverick Sprint

It should prove interesting, the deltas between the current carb\ignition settings, and the final settings, after the tune. Like primary and secondary jetting, squirter nozzles and cams, and of coarse, initial and total timing. All that good stuff, that will drive ya crazy, trying to get that perfec...

Re: Chevelle 2009 projects

There's no replacement, for displacement. OK, so maybe technology has made this statement obsolete... Still sounds cool. Humm, mouse-to-rat changeover. Exhaust. New headers. Misc belt driven accessory bracketry. Cooling plumbing -hoses. If memory serves, I believe the existing rad is OK. Misc wirin...

Re: Chevelle 2009 projects

I think it's the repeated wrenching, i.e. 400, that's starting to wear ol' Tiresmoker down. The Chevelle, is to much of an Icon, to be dismissed. So, as stated above, IMO, get the 'shovel' running, heck put tunes in it while your at it. Throw some money at the truck - heater controls. Pack up the ca...

Re: Chevelle 2009 projects

I feel the root problem is with today's 'emission friendly' motor oils. IE, Oil, that when introduced into the exhaust, won't mess with any emission related sensors or hardware. In order to archive that, newer oils have less additive(s) that work with flat tappet lifter arrangements. I know I've rea...
