No… I met the PO in Parma on my lunch break, so the car was at home.

Re: 1965 Oldsmobile 442

Yesterday, I was able to meet up with the previous owner of the 442 to pick up some miscellaneous parts that were part of the deal. He lives in Michigan, but was from the Cleveland area. He promised me the parts and we were finally able to connect when he came to town. He gave me the original distri...

Re: Canfield Swap Meet

I’d love to go and am supposed to be off work both Thursday and Friday this week.
There’s also a coworker that’s dealing with a family issue and I might have to cover
her slot. I’d put me at 75% yes to go. I’ll know better Thursday.

Chassis Bath

38,600…. The previous owner of the 442 lived on a gravel road. We noticed it when we picked it up and it was obvious by looking under the car that this was the case as there was a light residue all on the framework of the car. I’ve been avoiding this project until the weather was warm enough to do t...

Fuel Lines Replaced

38,500…. I’ve been pretty busy and forgot to post this small project that I did last weekend. It started with seeing some fuel dripping from the right rear of the car. There’s a gas tank vent on that side. I looked into the situation and there was a leak going on because the rubber fuel lines were o...

Re: 1996 Collector Edition Corvette

We had a small diesel motor at my old job that had some filings in it. I watched one of our mechanics use a shop vac with a piece of steel brake line taped to the hose to get in small areas to try to suck them out. It could be worth a try depending on the angles and space you have to work with. I wo...

Re: 1996 Collector Edition Corvette

WXO,

Can you see the back of the timing chain? How do the gears look?

Re: 1965 Oldsmobile 442

The previous owner didn’t mention the odometer not working. With little effort, I was able to make it work, but I’m not sure it would’ve been reliable. I was unable to find anything about 1965 Cutlass dash failures in my searching. My guess is that a tooth was chipped and it couldn’t quite engage. M...

Odometer repair

38,481… For the first time since I’ve owned this 442, I can post the mileage as the odometer in the car hasn’t functioned since I owned it. I purchased a nice cluster on EBay for $125 shipped to me. After cleaning it, lubing it, and learning how to change the mileage on an old speedometer (there are...

Routine oil change

30416… I did a routine oil change today. Full synthetic, 6 quarts and a Fram oil filter. Average MPG and speed continue to go up, no surprise with the highway miles this vehicle sees with me behind the wheel.

Pull that out of the garage on Wednesday when it’s going to be 95* and that
parade boot will stretch out perfectly! Looks great!

Re: 1965 Oldsmobile 442

I can't help thinking, "more bad Chinese parts". One of the reasons I purchased the distributor parts from Summit Racing was so I had an otion to return to a parts counter and talk to a human if i needed a replacement. It was nice that they took the parts back no questions asked. The real...

Distributor malfunction - Repaired

In my last post, I indicated that the car wouldn’t rev over 3,200 rpm. When I felt this happen for the first time, I was driving the car back from breakfast with my wife in the car. I kept my mouth shut and just gimped the car home, thankful it was under its own power. After dropping her off, I took...

Power Steering / Voltage Regulator

Last Saturday, I had some time to take a couple of more steps toward reliability. The power steering lines were still holding and not leaking, but the pressure line was cracked and dry rotted and the fluid was black. I purchased both the pressure and return lines (Gates brand) and had a quart of ATF...
