Re: Drag Radials

I'm looking around a little for some used 1" spacers but that's REALLY not my first choice. I'll keep looking for wheels with the right dimensions. onee inch spacer is too much. I doubt your studs are long enough for that. Keep looking. Maybe oldvettedad has a set of wheels for you and he coul...

Re: 1972 Maverick Sprint - Phase 2

So the 347 is obviously making more power than those Radial T/As can handle! You can see by your MPH you have WAY more power than with the 302! Isn't that like 10 mph more than the 302? You didn't mention wheel hop so I guess thats ok. You need a tire that will hook and you might need to ease it off...

Re: 1972 Maverick Sprint - Phase 2

Build 'em like you want. If you want original # match to mean anything at sell time, go buy a Mach 1 or RS/SS.
Makes a lot of sense! Build it for your enjoyment. I am seeing more of this in the Corvette community too!

Kilcare dragstrip

I found this photo on a FB group I belong to. Do any of you know of Kilcare dragstrip? In Xenia Oh? Is it still there?

Re: Lifting Plates and Aluminum Manifolds

I take the race car motor in and out with a lift plate. I use steel cap screws which are long enough to grab all the threads. Never had a problem. We have used this technique on many motors, never a problem. I use the same technique on the Corvette manifold too. When i took the motor and tranny out ...

Re: Dyno Anyone??

Now thats interesting! A bit pricey, but when you compare to some data recorders it is in the ballpark.

Re: Shift Points

Jim, I'm sure your combo can run 12's. But probably not with the tires and converter. But 13's, definitely. So mid 8's in eighth should be do able. Can't wait! In January we only bench race up here in the Arctic

Re: Shift Points

Jim,
I finally got your email and responded. Looking at your graph, assuming your car is still pulling strong at 5 grand I'd do the 1-2 shift around 5500. If its still strong at 5500 try to push closer to 5800. You are right, its the rpm drop that kills you.

My experience is anytime you can walk out of the dealer's service department with a bill less than $200 it is a WIN!

Re: 1966 Corvette project - Part 2

It is amazing how much info there is on some of the forums. I agree, enough guys have put T-5's in C2 Vettes that it shouldn't be rocket science. The driveshaft has to be shortened too, a couple inches. I've seen the bellhousings and they look funny with the tranny mounting face being 17 degrees cou...

Re: 1966 Corvette project - Part 2

No plans to dyno the current setup or the new one. But I might with the new setup to get an idea where the peak torque is. The IRS on the Corvettes are notoriously weak. They are the weak link. I don't mind putting power down once its moving, but dumping the clutch from a standstill with a lot of to...

Re: 1966 Corvette project - Part 2

I just hope I get it all done in a few months. I'm doing most of the technical research and parts chasing. I'll probably have the install done over at the Corvette Shop. The car is over there now waiting for some repaint, where flaws showed up. Basically the front end will be repainted. So, I figure...

Re: 1972 Maverick Sprint - Phase 2

Just looking over your comparison of the 347 to the 302. That is some substantial increase in HP and Torque! It oughta be fun
